Not possible to live in the islands on FO pay! I'm not sure what CA's make, but you can probably survive.
I was in STX earlier this week and ran across one of their crews. They said 1 Saab ready to go and 3 more almost ready.

Personally I'm going to be splitting a place just outside of Christiansted. Rents going to be $400.

To answer a few other questions, more saabs on the way. The goal we heard is 20 by 2015. Code sharing with AA starts late this month, lots of flying and new routes in the works.
You can live on island with FO pay, will have to get roomates. I am going in to a duplex near the airport with another FO and my share is 225.
As far as TT to get the call not sure, but getting hours here will not be a problem, we had one pilot get around 100 last month. If your close put in your app. This place is awesome!!
Any further questions feel free to PM me.

20 SAABS!!!! Are you serious??? That's like one a month. I wonder if the senior guys are excited about the opportunity to leave the Twin Otter and go fly the Saab?
Where did you find your female roommates? Are there lots of chicks on the island? Haha!

Not a whole lot of chicks on the island. My two roomates are one of our dispatchers and one of our pilots.

Yeah. For the most part it seems to be a preference thing rather than a seniority thing. There are a lot of new hires going to the saab some of which I know have no previous experience in type
