Poor Great Lakes :(

Curious if anyone has any updates on how the 1500 hour rule is affecting Lakes. I had read about a proposal to use the part 135 rules to address pilot qualifications. Any word on if the feds are buying off on this proposal, or is it a non starter? Also heard Captains are being drafted more and more to fly the right seat due to lack of new hire F.O.'s coming on line. Can any current Lakers shed some light?

I've heard it first hand, but I guess it's not first hand to you guys, so take what I say how you will:
They are flying Captain/Captain, but it has nothing to do with a shortage of FOs, it has everything to do with a surplus of pilots, like every other employer.

The Final Domicile Award for November is down to 36 FO's and 87 Captain's on the B1900D. The numbers show not only a shortage of total crew, but also the lopsided CA to FO ratio. 123 total Pilots for all of that Beech flying! The list decreases anywhere from 8-12% on a monthly basis with lots going to Compass, ExpressJet, etc. at the moment. Frontier, Spirit and US Airways have chosen a very select few Lakers recently too.
So, yes, there is quite a large amount of all Captain flying going on. There are some days when you don't see a single person with 3 Bars at all. Makes for an interesting logbook when you have to make sure to remember if you were CA or FO on a trip!
The 135 was talked about and is still on the table. However, the Feds are solid on wanting the seats completely removed down to 9 seats, while Lakes just wants the seats "roped off" to 9. The reasoning is lower mx costs, etc from their standpoint. For that reason, there is the current stalemate between the two and they remain far apart on compromise.

So sorry for being "dumb". I don't have an economics degree, but I do have over a decade of line flying experience and I believe that a slight rise in the price of tickets caused by paying pilots what they're worth isn't going to cause people to stop flying. I also believe that limiting the entrants to the industry will increase our bargaining power. That's an economic law, by the way, Professor. In fact, Nash won a Nobel on it. But I'm just a dumb pilot, what do I know?

Last I talked to a Laker buddy, they were "pre-cancelling" flights, due to lack of crews. This was about a week ago. I'm doubting it has changed within the last week...
