6 is a little slim, but I'm not too surprised. The LOA is only 2-weeks old so the effects might not be represented in the April class. Considering there was no Feb class and only 2 in Mar, 6 is pretty good. The next class is May 5th.

Not too sure about which base to pick for reserve, but it seems IAD may be growing so that may be a good bet. The June bid had a vacancy for 6 FO's.

Yeah your right about the LOA still having the new car smell, so it would be reasonable to say the May class and on will be the true test for the LOA.

IAD does seem like the growing base as you have said which would bode well for lower reserve time (all things going as planned) but it's a pain in the a$$ to commute to from PHX. I think just one flight a day to and from where as EWR has 8 or so a day to and from. But that's commuting for ya, sucks anyway you slice it (at least you get a hotel 4 times a month)

Heck, I'd consider bailing from Mesa for Commutair with this new pay scale. Turboprops are more fun. Would I be 'behind the curve' for reasonable upgrade times? Where to C5 FOs go when they leave?

A few have gone to Jet blue, I know of one at Spirit, another at Delta, and I believe there are a couple at united recently.

I'm also contemplating switching over to you guys. Are most new hires receiving Dulles as a base?

Yes the last FO vacancy was all for IAD, also were starting to see some more flying shift towards Dulles so I would say a new hire could hold it pretty easily for the foreseeable future

For the record, that is all Captain movement. Lots of FOs have bailed for other regionals pre LOA, although he was one FO get hired at Frontier. I do not know what his background was before C5 though.

Turbo props are more fun! I flew the CRJ-200/900 for 5 years and while those are fine airplanes, I really enjoy the dash

As for being "behind the curve," I wouldn't worry about that at all. Upgrades haven't happened in a few months bc we're short FO's so our upgrade is running a little over 2 years. There are 6 new hires in class for April and I believe we'll be over 10 new hires in May if what I've been hearing is true. Upgrades are sure to follow since we've cancelled a few flights over the last couple weeks for no crews, including captains. Just for perspective, CommutAir hasn't had upgrades ever go over 3-3.5 years in the last 10 years. And the only reason it went up that high at one time was due to the big recession a couple years back. Hope that helps.
