Interviewed yesterday. Was very impressed. Positive space, paid for hotel, and lunch? Who does that at the regional level (not at the other four interviews I've had the past two months). Although on the way back to DFW everyone diverted to IAH, cancelled, and no seats were available for the next two days it all seemed to work out (after a 1am one way rental car). Anyway, I was offered a June 2 class date.
While churning options I agree home basing is a factor. But I can't seem to shake my Independence Air experience. After moving from Michigan to an apartment 8 miles from Dulles when I upgraded to captain (so I could endure reserve) I was involuntarily transferred to ORD. Not TDY with a room and per diem it was a transfer- so I was left high and dry to go sit reserve for six days on my own dime for a CLT round on day 3.
Although I've got an offer at DFWs "hometown" regional as well, I'm distrustful of bases. They change. Then there's the offer of the shiny new EMB with a Houston base in August. With a two year training contract. Can't afford to be there that long at that pay rate.
As someone a little "seasoned" I can honestly say I got a good vibe from Commutair. I live in DFW but have family in MD. Wife just got hired by SWA as an FA with a likely BWI base. So IAD works great for me. And four hotels a month for commuters from the company? Can't beat that.

Agreed, the interview experience with Commuteair was great and left a good you with a good vibe. I was offered the June class, but it looks like I'll be taking the July class instead.

I guess when things started going south here at 9e I should have pulled the trigger on this place. I am still debating if I should apply. It is hard to give up 6.5 years of seniority but right now it gets me squat where I am. I might have to throw my app in here.

9E will suck the life right out of you. I couldn't be happier with my choice to leave. The concessionary contract, the joke known as the SSP, and all 140 CRJ-200's going to the desert convinced me to get out. It was definitely a tough choice but I decided to do it when 1st year pay was $23. Now it's $30 with the 4 free hotels. It's doable. You just have to cinch your belt for a couple years. They just announced the postponed April upgrade glass will be going forward in August. I expect upgrade time to be about 2.5 years at this point.

As everyone else has said I really think this is a good place to work. Awesome group of pilots and fun airplane to fly.

No way upgrades will be as high as 2.5 years. I'm guessing much lower. Talked to PK today and they have 9 confirmed for June 2 and hoping for at least 1 more.

C5 rocks...
I am a new FO to C5 and have been with them for about 7 months now. I came from two different 121 regionals before and I must say that by far C5 has the best training program, the instructors are awesome and there always willing to help even during your off time in the hotel, they are willing to review before an exam and literally almost tell you whats gonna be on the exam. They really want you to succeed here if you are willing to put in the effort to study and have a great attitude. I know every regional is hiring and I turned down republic e170 class and Express Jet class for C5 due to there great group of people, great contract and upgrade time i think is the lowest at the moment and I think it will be less than 2 yrs with upgrade classes soon to be starting and new hire classes being filled. I can guarantee that if upgrade and going to the major or legacy is your goal, by coming to C5 you will be one step closer to that goal whereas you can fly a regional jet and sit in the right seat of a shiny jet for 5 plus years and hope for a upgrade. Everyone has different needs when it comes to base preferences and maybe some bases might not work for everyone at C5 but as far as the company itself, its a great place to be with a secure future. I am still fresh from training so if anyone of you have a question please feel to inbox.
