Awesome post Kilgore. I unfortunately had to make the same decision...

I think there might be a few places down south that might like you. Give Pacific Wings a call. They are an op out of Hawaii, but they fly caravans out of Athens, GA (Georgia Skies) and Albuquerque, NM (New Mexico Airlines).

There's always SATSair, they seem to always be looking for A&P's and pilots. You might be able to get some kind of arrangement with them.

Good Luck!!

Honestly, I don't know people keep the spelling for half the villages in Alaska straight.

My favorite (more for the meaning and I had to look up how to spell it):

Anaktuvuk Pass
AirNav: PAII - Egegik Airport versus AirNav: PAIG - Igiugig Airport

The captain I was with the day we went into Egegik kept giving me a hard time because he said it sounded like I was saying Igiugig.

One morning I picked up the clearance in Anchorage and the Captain corrected me because I said Nick Six departure instead of K-nik Six. I asked him if he needed a K-nife to cut his apples. All the names are crazy up here for sure.

If just to bust your chops, I agree with him. It is the K-NIK Arm...

That is great!
I love when you fly by a village and all the people start up on the radio. "Are you going to Dillingham, New Stew, Koliganek?" Plus the Yup'ik Chatter.

Makes me miss KDLG and the Yup'ik word of the day.

Howdy, Just want to say thank you for the job search ideas. Much appreciated. USMCFLYR, I'll try to figure out how to post some photos soon. Right now spending a lot of time on Climbto350 and JS Firm's job site. Any of you guys out there need some more info on Southeast AK stuff, try messaging me and I'll see what I can do. BTW, Promech is already advertising for float pilots for summer '09 on Climbto350.
Cheers,

I never got to fly down there. Was that on the radio?

AM radio definitely had a different flavor up there. Its all NPR, but the DJ's are different. The morning guy in Kotz always had me wondering what he was on that day...

Tundra Drums.... first time I heard that, I was trying to figure out what was wrong with my radio. In Emo, I'd have the alarm clock/radio set on KNOM. Coming out of a dream state to the tundra drums is ..... different.

Anyone know the yupik words sung to the happy birthday tune? That always has me cracking up. Unooska nooska kooka noo. That's what the first line sounds like, to me anyway. (Happy birthday to you.)
