surf air is a great place to work dont listen to "Tranny1". He is a disgruntled former employee with a serious case of "shiney jet syndrome". he talks the talk but truth is every one hated him at surf. He has a horrible attitude and everyone knows who he is on here its pretty sad. be sure to ask him about his " leaving the engine cover in the intake" story!!

LMAO^^^^ aint that the truth. SurfAir is a cool place to work. OCT class is all captains. most guys getting 75 hours and 15-18 days off from what ive seen. there still is a pool of FO that need are waiting on a class date.

It really is a great place, of course there are growing pains since it is a start up, but they are working on all of the issues. At least that is what I have seen so far. It is by far the best flying job that I've had so far. All day trips, electronic flight bags, all I bring to work is a lunch bag & some water, my longest duty day so far has been 9hrs 40mins, which is way shorter than those famous 15 hour duty days at the airlines, 95% of the people working here are in a good mood all the time. All of this just makes working here awesome.

Also, when's their next training class? No hiring classes that I know of until early next year when we begin expanding again. Kinda Fat on FO's right now but there is a slow , expected attrition so possibly? |

800TT if you don't have an internal rec. They want guys who on the one hand aren't greenhorns, but the other hand, won't jump ship to the regionals right away. Customer service and attitude are really big here.

I agree that the company is a little heavy on FO manning. I also heard that ground school dates have been postponed until after the holidays. I'm not however sure how much attrition will actually occur within the FO ranks. Unfortunately FO to Captain upgrade rates occur less often than SA hiring street captains to fill requirements (observation). I see this as a long term problem for the company in terms of retention (FOs reaching 1500-2000 hours will likely jump ship if there's no movement in sight). Just my $.02
Hopefully the lack of new airplanes until the new year, will allow the company to stabilize a bit with staffing, and upgrade a few FO's. We are a bit heavy on FO's but we could definitely use more Captains. The other thing to consider, is that upgrades are not just based on hours or time with the company, but also on merit. |
