Any details? More hiring? Pulling current US SA pilots to move or will they be hiring people to go be based out of Europe?

Also saw in another article a Citation and a Learjet with SA livery. It looked photo shopped but are there any rumors about that?

Will Surf Air consider SIC under 800TT?

As of now, no details (hiring, bases, etc) with regards to the EU ops have been released to the U.S. pilot group. It's assumed the aircraft will have EU registration which requires an EASA certificate and the pilot groups will be separate. The FAA to EASA conversion process isn't exactly an overnight process. Pretty much have to relearn a whole new set of regs, airspace, etc.... take a written and checkride. Also, the aircraft type has not been officially announced other than 2 pics of a CJ(4?) and Lear 75. Bombardier-Learjet had their Lear 75 demo aircraft at our Hawthorne hangar a few weeks back. The launch in Fall is aggressive and I hope it works out.

They have in the past. Be on your A-game with respect to IFR ops and regs. Current CFI would help. Crew experience, previous 135/121 and/or glass cockpit is a plus.

There have been a few hired under 800 and I think they should drop the requirements down to 4 or 5 hundred, but that's just me. Obviously it's going to be hard to have previous 121/135 experience at that amount of hours so it's going to come down to being sharp, & having good stick and rudder skills. That being said, the most important thing is personality & a willingness to learn to do things the way the company wants. Previous glass experience will definitely go a long way because our avionics system is ridiculous.

It's a great place to work regardless of if you come in as a street captain or a first officer. Of course there are flaws, but can you name a company that doesn't have any?

What I hear, it will be operated under European AOC (Tag Aviation) - thus G-reg aircraft and the need for EASA license. If I had to guess, on top of this you would need TR+500h on type (and the right to work in EU of course).

Any word if Surf Air plans to do East Coast flights?

Only similar 135 around here seems to be cape air. Home at base every night is a nice change from airlines or 8/7 schedules.

There has been intent to expand in Texas, Florida and Northeast (simple Google search), but I'm not one to officially comment on the status. Hopefully we can grow outside of CA in the next year. (apart from the Europe Ops)



Hiring update. A current class just finished groundschool. Next 2 groundschools of 6 each (FOs) slated for early and mid August.

Surf air is cutting major routes, halving bases. Pilots are very disgruntled. You've been warned.

Judging by your posting history here at APC, you are on the outside looking in (Trans States pilot) and have a friend or friends at Surf Air and/or simply heard through word of mouth... which then was translated in an exaggerated manner.

You've been warned. We're still interviewing and hiring. Our SoCal base has seen an unusual amount of attrition in the last 5 to 6 weeks. And the majority of that attrition occurred BEFORE the recent events.

I can think of MANY sh!ttier places to work. My worst day here is still 100x better than most. The initial shock of recent announcements is over and life goes on. Our pilots are doing what they need to do to keep this a safe and fun place to work. Some have chosen to move on. Cruising up and down the coast of Cali still beats many gigs. Surf is a great place to come with 600-1000 hours and gain crew, turbine and glass time before moving onto the traditional airlines if that is your end goal.
