EAS airlines in general are on the way out if you ask me. They can keep pumping in fresh low time FOs looking for a way to build time other than instructing (this is the exact route I'm taking) but having a really hard time keeping captains around. Sea Port is struggling with it too.
It's a great time to be a pilot if you've built up your flight time enough. |

I worked there a couple years ago and they pulled some shady stuff with me as well. I came on as an FO, never signed any contract(training or otherwise) or so much as gave a verbal commitment to Cape Air for how long I would work there. This was my first airline and I found out quickly that working for a place like Cape Air you had better move to your base(in most cases) because it is an absolute nightmare trying to commute back.
I resigned for a regional to be home based before I upgraded to captain at Cape Air and the CP told me I would be marked on my PRIA as a non rehire. Good group of pilots over there but felt that it wasn't a great fit for me personally due to commuting and now I have this on my record. Can't say I'm surprised by your experience |
The Captain pay people are talking about in here isn't imagined. It's very easy to make 50k + first year without applying yourself. Pick up incentive days and that number skyrockets when you can pick up an extra day for $900.
The problem for the company is they spend a significant amount of money getting FO's on the line with most of the training in the aircraft. They're now hiring as low as 500TT, 1000 hours shorter than the regional require. In return they get to stop flying loops around the pattern, and develop professionally. In return the company expects the FO to upgrade and be a Captain for 1 year (where they see their return on investment). I can't say whether or not I agree with their newest approach, but maybe it'll stop the hemorrhage of money going into FO's that don't fulfill their commitments. |

There were some individuals there that really were great and I enjoyed being around. But there were still many that created a toxic work environment. It was pretty demoralizing. Figured we could go somewhere we are actually needed/wanted. That's why many people are leaving. |

How is that shady? They tell you that upfront. Also, not everyone wants to work at a 121. I went there to get some quick multi time and not sacrifice my home life. My only negative was the whole bidding process where you get moved every 6 months.

Its one thing for me to sign a training contract, or some sort of an agreement of expectations of my time there. It was never even brought up, and I never was under any presumption that I was expected to stay at Cape Air for some period of time as an FO. I only knew of the year agreement once you became a captain. If you expect that of people, either be up front about it or have them sign an agreement. Not vindictively try to add a black mark to someone's record. Thats ridiculous and unprofessional. Glad we have the tool of APC so others can be informed

Stay away from this piece of **** company!!! The owner is a senator for the democrats flagging $15/hr for burger flippers and paying his own pilots $10/hr. This hypocrisy pretty much runs straight thru their entire organization. Get yourself a CFI rating and a job with a meaning, making decent money, instead of putting SIC time as a non-required crew member in your logbook.

Instead of pouring money into training FOs that quit, why not throw that money into an attractive incentive package for captains?

So why do the FO thing? If they want to go regional they will go, why pay someone to go from 500-1500TT when they will just leave anyway. Seems to me they should realize that all these starry eyed youngsters want to fly jets anyway, and crappy 402's are just a means to an end. Pay captains well and there will be enough weirdos with no real long term career aspirations to make service.
