I have 8000 hours and 7000 of it is single pilot single engine turbine time. At 51 yrs old I've been considering getting my ATP and trying for a job flying for a 121 cargo company. But with only a few hundred multi I wonder if it's a dream that doesn't have a chance.
If you want to do 121 cargo in turbojets, you'll need more multi time to be competitive. If you only want to get into 121, then you can take some time in a regional and move up.
The biggest challenge, if your background is ag, is flying instruments. If you've got that covered and can pass a sim check in an unfamiliar aircraft, then simply being competitive is your only object; I don't know what's competitive for Southern in the 737's right now, but I don't think it takes a lot. You won't make much and you'll hate the schedule, but it will get you into heavier multi turbojet equipment faster.
Bear in mind that a lot of operators see an ag background as a negative. It does take much more in terms of piloting and skill; there's no question about it, but the stigma is cowboy, and that's hard to shake. Get your foot in somewhere, and go from there.
