Default FBO Car Rental - Beware

I was just charged $200 for a 4 hour/22 mile Hertz rental @ Odyssey FBO in Charleston, South Carolina. I've contacted the FBO and hopefully this will be resolved. No complaints with the FBO, just Hertz

Mainly whining on my part, but I wanted any part 91'ers to be aware.

Thanks!

It's standard practice for them to hold WAY more than the rental. You will be refunded the difference after a few days have gone by and they realize that you haven't wrecked their car and returned it on time.

Yes - but did not know how long I'd be away - I'm sure they have hourly
limits for crew cars.

The FBO has been great - even trying to straighten this out on Sundayl

After the anal reaming has hopefully been resolved, I'll update the forum.

ps Got some great photos of a C17 on departure and a C-130 on a practice intrument approach. It's good to know the big guys need to make some rather tight adjustments prior to landing

If you go back go to Atlantic they have two hour limits on the cars. No Land Rovers. I go eat lunch downtown everytime and have plenty of time.

$200 is too much for a hold, Enterprise usually charges me $50 bucks for a hold when I rent with them.

Hertz sucks. Rented with them once, never will again. They couldn't explain to me why they needed to do a $500 authorization for a 4 day rental, which he said was for damages (I had prepaid the full amount) if I was paying the $12 insurance.

Morons. Go Enterprise.

Neither company is above dirty tricks. Enterprise said I brought a car with a small chip in the windshield. I did not notice it on the outbound run, and while it may or may not have been there when I got the car, a small chip is not damage it is unavoidable wear and tear no matter who is driving. What single thing could anyone do to prevent a chip from happening? On another occasion I signed out a car and did not notice a small dent in the side. They claimed I did it and wanted to be paid, but this time I knew it had not been dented by me. I believe these companies give incentives to their employees for sticking small claims to their customers. You need to take a full set of date-stamped pics before signing for any rental car.

I dont think hertz sucks, nor enterprise. I really like the Hertz gold club, makes life really easy for us and passengers. Call the FBO give em your number and car preferred and its waiting when you land. no signatures, no delays, and no questions asked. Plus anyone who is employed by the company can drive it and its automatically covered. Ive yet to have bad luck
with either company. Thats with 91 rentals just this year with hertz, enterprise probably a third of that.
