This will never sit right for me. I pay my union dues. Everyone here does. You don't know who I am or if I volunteer, just as much as I don't know if you are the chairmen of the MEC. You could be for all I know.
That in no way effects my right to express my opinion on the union and what they are doing. What are you doing when you volunteer time to the union? Does representing pilots ring a bell? How are we to be represented if we aren't allowed to express our opinion? Your right to explain how you feel about the way things are going is in no way linked to your volunteer record. End of story.
Maybe the union only feels it represents those who do volunteer? And it attracts a certain kind of person? And maybe that echo chamber is why the union deemed it appropriate to put forth a vote on a concessionary contract that the pilot group replied to with a resounding "NO". Just spitballing here.
But maybe I'm on to something. The union is representative of the pilot group as a whole. If people truly believe that if you don't volunteer you don't have a say? Then man, are we in trouble.

That’s why volunteering is important. I’m not saying you need to volunteer to have a voice, but what I am saying is you should volunteer to gain perspective. Because it’s not as black and white as people on facebook or APC make it seem.
That being said, I’m speaking from prior experience. I’m not sure what the PDT union day-to-day consists of but I can assure you that through the three airlines I’ve worked at - it’s always the same.
I honestly believe the people in our Union are trying for the best, what makes our company ****ty is that the management isn’t willing to see our point of view.

Yeah, we all pay union dues which is why it’s irrelevant. You’re not just paying the union to be your voice, you’re paying into the benefits it can provide.

Pilots definitely need to get involved and really pressure the leadership in Mngmt and the Union to get their **** together.

All potential new hires, remember you are also interviewing the company and seeing if it is a good fit. They need you, and are trying to "sell" you the job. Remember most of them if not all are not pilots, their job is to get pilots in the door.
I hear they are telling those that are interviewing that they can flow in 3-5 years. Unless the flow is dramatically altered that is a flat out lie. There are 40 lifers at most, and we are flowing 6 per month with no growth in sight. We actually shrank this month.
Most pilots are getting 11 days off for barely over 75 hours credit. Please ask the interviewer to show you both the initial bid and the final bid for a previous month. You will see lines that were a measly 13 days off truly end up being 11 days off.
Ask the recruiter how fast you can reasonably expect to actually fly and start building 121 time. As discussed currently it's still around 9 month for most new hires.
Think about how much closer to upgrade you will be at other airlines.
Know your value as a professional pilot. Do not settle for substandard QOL and pay.

So, looking through the lines, we have a junior line that has 11 days off in the month of Nov and six trips. Block of just under 70 hours and credit of the 75 guarantee. All but one of the breaks are two days off...
130 lines and none credit more than 78 hours. All are between 11 and 13 days off...

This is atrocious and the worst ive ever seen it here... ofcourse we will all be junior manned and extended Thanksgiving weekend...
This company lacks any need, idea or want to give us quality time at home.. pilots are still treated as a resource.. there is zero concern for us..
When you spend over 300 to 400 hours time away from base.. you are spending 50 to 75 percent of your life at work.. all too make 35k as a fo and 55 to 60k as a captain...
Forget it if you have a family and commute... too many of our guys and girls are getting single real fast...
