If the nation goes into a deep recession, then the company is in a good position to let rates go back down. The fed is pushing up rates with 2/10 yield curve inverted, so appears very likely a recession is coming if not already here.
I don’t think recruiting will be hurt until late next year. If hiring is still strong, they can easily extend to match Mesa, Skywest, etc.. I’m looking at making a career change late 2023, so keeping an eye out on how to proceed.

Talking with some of the union reps, they are already expecting a phone call sooner rather than later from the company making the rates permanent since everyone has basically matched us with some regionals making their rates permanent

AA is currently paying the WO 150% of the new market rate in the form of a 2 year surge rate, the plan for that is to go away. I believe they will as long as AA feels it’s WO staffing is adequate.

So it doesn’t snap back to 10% over highest paid regional? Found this post under Skywest’s forum when someone mentioned it… If it were to happen now it would be 10% over Mesa bringing it to $110 for FO and $165 for CA 1st year.

The WO pay schedules snap back to 10% above whatever the highest regional schedule is at that time. If it was today, they’d “snap back” to $110 & $165. Ten percent above Mesa. Not bad.

My point is the staffing will not be adequate. The regional pilot landscape is going to continue to be competitive for the regionals, beyond Sept. 1, 2024. They are just kicking the can down the road as far as an extension. But all the tea leaves show it will.
