Default How you stay in shape

I'm wondering how you guys that are already out on the industry, do to stay in shape. Especially those are that out on multiple days leg. I work out 5x a week for an hour, and not only it helps me stay in shape and look great. But it also helps me sleep at night since I'm a night person. So how do you guys combat the chubby pilot look?

I do a variety of aerobic stuff... run, swim, machines, most of which I can do on the road (except swimming).

I follow that up with weights, calisthentics, or back/ab work, and I try to stretch before I go to bed. This seems to prevent repetetive stress injuries.

By doing a variety of things, my body is ready to use pretty much whatever POS equipment is available without risk of injury.

I try to work out every day at work...that frees up some time at home.

I am not confined to the road most of the time. I ride a bicycle to and from the office. Then on days off I ride a couple of hours to nowhere in particular. It doesn't do much for your upper body so I swim and or work gym machines when the weather is bad for bikes. I have always hated the machines though, building bulk seems undesirable... could never get into it for some reason.

Diet and exercise. Watch what I eat and run 3-4 times a week. Try to walk as much as possible during the day / week.

When I was on the road 250+ days/year I always managed to squeeze in a quick run. For my last marathon, I ran most of my training program while away from home. Running is simple...you break a sweat and it doesn't take too much time out of your day. Good luck!

I end up doing most of my running at home. Most airline hotels are not located near good running tracks...especially at night.

Winter - cross country skiing/biatholon, ice hockey & running if we dont have the typical 110 inches of snow that requires snowmobiles for transportation...along with some other indoor not so miserably cold stuff.

Other months - running, softball and swimming mostly...

I've become a big fan of crossfit, and after just a couple months, my wife is pleased with the results too.

www.crossfit.com

The workouts are a real a$$ kicker, and you'll initially be sore in places you didn't know you had. The workouts are very intense but only last about 25-30 minutes once you get comfortable with the exercises.

Highly recommend you check it out if you are not familiar with it, read the FAQ and watch the videos, particularly the video "nasty girls"...they will most likely put you to shame (they are all workout videos, nothing inappropriate there).
