I always take a granola bar with me, apple and a banana, keeps you reasonably full. Well I won't exactly say that, it's easier to resist Junk food at the airport when you are semi hungry.
If you do decide to drink a lot of coffee, well I hope you have a bathroom in your aircaft, or bring a gatorade bottle.

I agree, as much as I like coffee, I try to resist it (along with junk food) when I'm flying. If there are any health benefits to coffee, I'm sure they can countered due to coffee being a diuretic.

I'm sure 2-4 cups of coffee can increase the chance of becoming dehydrated - especially on long flights in extremely dry cockpits.

Sounds like a recipe for Kidney Stones!

Those little slim fast meal bars are a real good subsitute to a lunch. And you dont have to wait in line to buy'em either.

Default Pilot's health and eating habits

I would recommend drinking lots of water. Stay hydrated. Take the advice of eating healthy, bananas, granola bars and other fruit and bring your own lunch meat etc. In addition to maintaining good health you'll probably save a few bucks. Just my opinion.

I read that diet soft drinks can actually make you gain weight because they confuse your body with the seudosweetener or whatever crap they put in it. As for coffee, moderation is a good idea. Drinking 6 cups a day isn't going to help you out. For one all the caffeine is going to fry your circuits. Coffee is a diuretic so you’re going to pee all your water out (that’s a bad thing) and get kidney stones. Kidney stones are excruciatingly painful and are considered more painful than childbirth.
Bottom line, drink lots of water and avoid pop/soda like the plague. As for food ideas, Quaker instant oatmeal would be a good idea. It will fill you up, and give you energy for a longer period of time. Fruits are excellent because they have tons of fiber and are mighty tasty.
Avoid deli meats because they are full of salts and other crap. Chicken and whole wheat breads are your best friends. Don’t forget veggies.
Oh yeah EXCERSISE REGULARLY! Exercise helps you get rid of stress and produce chemicals (I can’t remember which ones) that make you happy. Plus you’ll look better and make more money.

Try to keep a regular diet. If your gona eat processed deli meats like oscarmyers and crap like that try to have them with vitaminC drinks because vitaminC kills the bad things from processed foods. I read that in a health food journal. When your flying there is no reason to have any other drink than water. Coke is only good when you have heartburn or stomach problems, I don't drink coke any more unless I need it. DON'T DRINK ENERGY DRINKS when flying.

If all else fails, then you should atleast be exercising a few days a week. And also eat a lot of spinach, if you can't cook then just eat it like a salad. It greatly enahnces your oxygen level in your blood and that means more energy.

I carry slim fast bars and other energy bars along with packets of Tuna. I'll get some soup or a turkey sandwich on 9 grain at the Atlanta Bread Company. That is about all I'll eat in an airport. A packet of tuna and a slim fast bar with a couple of Dasani bottles will fill me up!

Default coffee not diuretic

the belief that coffe is a diuretic has been thrown out. It was a flawed 1950's study that came up with that notion. they have just redone the study and found out is no more diuretic than green tea or water.

yes it does make you go pee, but so does water. it does not make you eliminate more fluids than you take in, that is why is not a diuretic. furthermore, they have found out it destroys cancer cell in the liver in lab rats ( more studies to follow).

on the down side, it is an irritant, so if you suffer from IBS, Heartburn , acid relex or something like that you should stay away from it.

also, the airplane water used for making coffe is full of bacteria... but is ok to drink it from a reputable coffe shop or make your own with bottle/filter water if you carry one of those plastic french press from REI.
