Default CA Reserve Time @ ORF

How long could I expect to be on reserve at ORF following upgrade to CA? My understanding is PSA is CA heavy for the next few years. Do CA times vary base-to-base or is it all a wash in the end with the reserve pool?

Seniority required to get off reserve varies from base to base and from year to year. Charlotte is worse than everything else. The other bases have tended to be similar. ORF has been the shortest lately, but that is evolving toward parity with the other bases.

When were you hired?

Thanks for the info. I’m an RTP guy so no DOH yet. I’ve been starting to hear some CAs spend several years on reserve (3-5 years in some cases?) Does that timeframe seem accurate?

When were you hired? Keep in mind, there will be like 20-25 of the top FOs in ORF including myself who will upgrade into base as well (I was a FEB hire last year).

Apologies I should have clarified. I’m an RTP hire building time right now so i haven’t even received a date of hire yet. I’m trying to project out the next few years as much as possible. ORF would be my preferred base, especially if CA reserve time was lower.

No one is spending 5 years on reserve as a captain.

Some people who transfer from another airline and upgrade immediately may spend 3 years on reserve, but that would not apply to you.

There's really no way to predict what might be happening in 2022 for somebody hired this year. Good chance that with growth slowing the normal order of life will return and you will spend 3-5 years as an FO and then upgrade at the time of your choice.

Predicting regional airline industry 2 years ahead is like predicting the weather 2 years in advance. The difference is - weather forecasting has some science behind it.

True. I can barely plan 6 months down the line.
