I just got hired yesterday and... wow that was fast! I applied on 19 Jul and had a pre-screening on 20 Jul. They set me up for a MS Teams interview on 1 Aug and I had a CJO by that night. I'm going to be in the 28 Aug class. Looking forward to it!

The Teams interview was about an hour. Here are some of the more memorable questions. "ATC asked you to keep your speed up on arrival. As a result, you're not configured at 1000' (company standard). What do you do?" Call the go around. "A hydraulic leak was discovered in the preflight. Mx wants you to tell the pax that it's an ATC delay." Nope. Don't lie to our customers. Try to avoid mentioning the mx because that freaks some people out, but DO NOT LIE to our customers. I talked about how another airline recently had massive delays, blamed it on weather and ATC... yet THEY were the only ones affected. That's what this question is getting at. I had to decode a METAR... got it mostly right and he gave me a hint to get it 100% right. Know FAA wx mins, fuel reserves, cloud clearances, etc. He asked me what aircraft I'm most familiar with and had to brief a system. I'm a Global Hawk pilot and he was cool with briefing the electrical system.

Are you coming in as a new FO and if so, what was your prior flight experience/hours?

Yes, I'm coming in as a new FO. I was a USAF pilot with about 2,750 hours comping mostly from T-37 and C-17. The thing is, I went to the Global Hawk (UAV) in 2007, which is what I've been doing since then both military and in my retired life. I only have about 50 actual hours since then, the majority of which has come in the past year. I obviously don't have the recent experience to go DEC. I'm getting credited with 500 hours toward captain from my military time, so after just 250 more I'll supposedly get upgraded to captain. Between that and the sign-on bonus for high-time FO it has finally made financial sense to fly for the airlines.
