It’s all what you make of the job. If you focus on the negative, you’re going to hate wherever you are…PSA or not.

I’ve been here 5 years, commute to DC from California and it is what it is. I put up with the commute due to my wife having a job that pays almost as much as mine. Commuting to reserve does suck, but it won’t be forever. Things are starting to move again post 2020 Covid. I doubt new hires will be on reserve long if we keep hiring 60 a month. As a check airman, I’ve been doing FO IOE non stop for the past 8 months.

PSA definitely has up sides, but if a new hire lives in a city where another regional is based they'd probably be better off going there instead.

once you get Long Call you’ll think you’re good with no more hot reserve and they will convert your long call to short call and make you sit hot.. know someone who was on Long Call in November and sat hot for their maximum of 8 days…. And they can adjust your reserve show time by up to 3 hours. PSA has the worst reserve rules in the industry with schedulers not going off seniority and just assigning whatever floats their boat.

Isn’t the long to short call limit like three times a month?

Not sure and if so, no one stops scheduling from violating the contract daily

Just when I though the contract couldn't be written more on swiss cheese...

"g. Crew scheduling may convert a long-call reserve pilot to a short- call reserve pilot in blocks of reserve days or reserve days remaining in a block provided all of the following conditions are met1) The pilot is given twelve (12) hours notification.

(2) The pilot is not converted more than two (2) times during the bid period and twelve (12) times per year."

First time I read that I thought "oh, only two short calls per month"

Nope "blocks of reserve days"
So if you have a 6 day block of long call ... they can convert that to 6 days of short call which constitutes one conversion.

That having been said ... scheduling exploits every single gray area in the contract but will adhere to the few things which are black and white. I'd bet 100% they dont' keep track of LCR conversions and the pilot needs to.

I never got converted on LCR, but I did bid it against the advisement of several people and I wasn't thrilled. Anything involving reserve at PSA is crap, no one can convince me otherwise.

Eh, RSV living in base is different than out of base.

I will grant you I’m super senior, but I haven’t touched an airplane in about 4 weeks.

If you’re a junior commuter, God help you, because scheduling certainly won’t.
