PDT guy here. Curious what you have heard on your side in regards to how many us airways is taking from PSA and PDT for their recent need of 50 new hires? I know of 2 that got on from PDT. I hope there are a lot more!

seafeye 07-27-2012 05:57 AM

I heard that 15% of new hires are supposed to be PSA. 15% PDT.

That leaves about 15% Comair, 15% Pinnacle, 15% ASA, 15% Skywest....

Flew with a captain that heard from airways director of crew planning that they're looking to fill at least a third of their classes from PSA and PDT. Also heard a rumor at least on our side of things is that PSA will dictate to airways how many people they can hire at a time, so not to cause a situation where we're short on pilots.

According to what I heard from an instructor in the training department, Airways told PSA that they expect to take 10-15 pilots from us.

Two more PSA CA's left for mainline this month.

One was Charlotte and one was Knoxville, plus the 3 or 4 that went to FedEx.

Does anyone have updates on PSA's future class's or hiring? Spoke with HR just before the long weekend, said they would be reviewing apps this week. Anyone have more to add? How is this company compared to TSA, Skywest, or XJet? I'm pretty new to the regional side of things any thoughts would be great.

BackintheLPA 09-05-2012 05:14 AM

There will be a class that starts October 1st...I don't know how many though.

skyxbomb 09-05-2012 03:23 PM

We've been having small classes of 4-6 every month. That won't change until we have higher attrition which we're expecting (along with every other regionals).

Man, I got the "thanks but no thanks" e-mail last night from PSA. 1900tt and 102 multi.

Sorry man luck of the draw. Sometimes it seems there's no rhyme or reason to who gets the call and who doesn't.

Did you interview or just submit an app? With those times I'd think you would get a call for an interview, but times don't get you the job.

True. But yet we got FOs that don't meet the hour requirements by next August. Hmmm must've done an awesome interview.

Believe me your better off not coming here. Reserve is the most depressing thing at this airline...

They must have come from an aviation university then. Is'nt there some loophole for that which lowers TT requirement to like 1000TT?

To the tune of 10 days off yet only a 72 hour garuntee, 5 days on 2/3 off 14 hr reserve periods. Terrible first year pay and $1.40 per diem. They either don't use you, or use you up to 71.9 hours. Oh and did I mention the 3 days of 10 hour hot reserve periods?

ZW. Our reserve is near that with a just couple things more advantageous.. In the end, we're all stuck in the east cactus patch.

fullflank 09-08-2012 09:12 AM

Yeah, when these guys complain about reserve, they are not exaggerating by any means. It really is terrible. I spent roughly my first 2 years on reserve and can personally vouch for how it is described.

After 5 years here, things have certainly improved for me. 14-15 days off, 90ish hour credit at $39 and some change/hr. All commutable trips. Its shouldn't take this long for someone to stop hating their job, but unfortunetly it does here. Hopefully we can get a new contract soon that would ease the pain for JR guys.

Yeah man I hear ya. I personally cannot speak of an experience like that. I spent much less time on reserve and have equitable pay on 2nd year of service. Bid about the same type stuff, but not all commutable.. I'm just envious of yalls CLT domicile..

I think all the USEX guys and gals (wholly owned and not) are on the same page with lengthy negotiation periods and the need to come out of the concessionary decade that has passed... Our companies should be good places to work, but unfortunately it's becoming tougher to convince someone that they are... All of us have value. I stand behind you guys as you wade through negotiations.

Yes, CLT is probably one of the only beneficial aspects of PSA vs. some other carriers. The most JR line holder can hold all commutable trips, depending on where you're coming from ofcourse.

I know that our negotiators sit in on AWAC negotiation session, and vise versa. Hopefully that will lead to a higher standard for all US EX pilot groups. Ofcourse, we have alot further to go just to catch up with AWAC current book. Last I heard PDT management locked out PSA and AWAC from negotiations, but hopefully that's changed by now.

BTW, with all the flying you guys picked up in CLT and we picked up in DCA, it wouldn't suprise me if you did get a CLT base at some point.

Wow that's awesome about commutability.. Getting both sides goes WAY senior. In both seats..

And haha yeah we wish.. I'll keep saying my prayers. Management says they "tried" but airways won't give us the overnighters.. Hmph ohh well.

PSA

Anybody know why PSA pulled out of the job fair next Saturday in Atlanta?

BackintheLPA 09-13-2012 03:30 PM

Next PSA Class

Next class is October 15th, not October 1st and sounds like it will be a small class(4-6).

Rumor on the street is that Go Jerks came to US Airways and said they wanted to operate our CRJ 700's and will do so cheaper.
