PSA Reserve as new hire
#12
Do a search it has all been written before. Been the same for the last 10 years so all posts will still be accurate. But in short:
Weak contract language.
Reserve guarantee pay is 72 hrs.
You will not break this. You might but doubtful.
Ready reserve (Hot reserve) is 10 hours at the airport in uniform. (Not paid). You get your 72 hrs. You will get per diem. $12
No credit for regular reserve or ready reserve. Basically the only way to get more than 72hrs of pay in a month is to fly more than 72 hrs.
So if you fly 72 hrs in the first 20 days (Not likely) and sit ready reserve for the last several days you will only get paid for 72 hrs. (Ie working for free).
No cancellation pay. They call you up for a trip. You drive to the airport and then the flight gets cancelled. You just wasted your gas for free.
Continued Ready Reserve.... still can't find this in the contract but it is used frequently.
Continued Reserve.....see above.
Early to late swaps. Start day 1 at 5am. Finish day 5 at 10pm or later.
Reserves tend to do all the flying that a line holder doesn't want to do. So enjoy the 6 or 7 leg days and end up in HSV CAK DAY FAY JAN
Rarely will you get a MLB or DAB or GNV overnight.
This is bringing back bad memories so i;m going to stop. The reserve system at PSA is borderline abusive. Everyone has been notified of this so if you come to PSA and believe HR's stories about holding a line right away you have no one to blame but yourself.

A general question- how are flights assigned on reserve at PSA? A buddy of mine was telling me that CS just picks people randomly. Is that right?

Basically! I had scheduling on the phone one night and asked them that very question! What I was told they go by is 1) Requested 1st out, Last out, then 2) most Junior to Senior, then 3) throw out 1 and 2 and go with whatever works better for them (days left of reserve, hours, schedules etc)

At 9E you'd get 4hrs credit just for the call out min then whatever they gave you, you got to keep.
