Make sure you ask how many new hires were in their December classes! Apparently it's been non-stop.

Well the union has to approve it and I think that the pilot members are going to be opposed to the idea.

I dont think the union gets a say. The DO explained that they will be giving the money to new hires before they are technically employees.

And read our ALPA forum, it doesn't sound like the union plans to do much about it. And to be honest, I don't blame them. I would be more worried about our critical pay arbitration than a $5000 bonus.

Really? Seems like the payouts occur after training completion and a number of months of service. Why are they not technically employees?

I think in reality this is really just the company paying for an ATP/CTP course somewhere. Most current regional pilots never had to buck that cost and it isn't inappropriate for the union to let the company pay for that cost without trying to force a payday for the pilot group.
