you guys sound worse than joan and mellisa rivers. your just an airline pilot not the fashion police. fly your plane, thats your job!

I bought a nicer pair of dress shoes to fly in once. After six months of rudder pedals and ramps, they completely fell apart. Thin-soled, low-cut, shined black Doc Martens for me...I apologize for preferring a product that lasts.

Hats

Most people at Commutair don't wear hats. I do, I am one the few that do. I wear baseball hats so I think of it as the same thing. I do wear it in the terminal too. Never thought difference between indoors and outside. IMO it completes the uniform. I always try to look my best. Though the Commutair hat, with the shape of the emblem. Also there is nothing on the hat lid. Combine all that with blue color it makes look like a police chief rather than a pilot

I had a recent jumpseater from another airline come in without a tie but with his shoulder boards still on. I asked him to change his shirt and get comfortable. He said it's "ok". Then I told him that the passengers on this aircraft do not know he is not a United pilot and that he either change into another shirt of at least take off the shoulder boards, it looks sloppy without a tie. I guess he wanted everyone to know he was a pilot. That's ok but look like a good pilot.

Ok guys, I'm not saying we should follow the above statement to the "t", but it DOES have some truth in it. Is it fair to ask someone to keep their shoes perfectly shined, dry clean their shirts every time and have the pants pressed before every flight when you're getting paid $15/hour (GLA FO) ???

Now if you're talking stuff like stained clothing, untucket shirts and sunglasses on the forehead, then that's just plain sloppyness, no excuses.

I personally ALWAYS overdress to any occasion, so none of the above applies to me, but honestly I don't think we should expect TOO much out of a $15/hour worker....

So don't settle for that kind of money. Someone else said it best, shoe shine is cheap. Ironing is not that difficult.

I wear my hat everyday its part of the uniform just like the shine shoes starched shirt and pressed pants. I may not make 20k this year but i look like a million bucks. I even had some old freaky ladies say emmmmm lookin good i wanted to say i know but thank you is what came out. yes i'm flat brooke but a pilot in a nice uniform "PRICELESS"

ghilis101 03-08-2007 11:22 AM

so what are us fatty pilots supposed to do to look good? do we let our guts hang down over our pants, or do we buy pants with huge waists and cinch them around our guts for that smooth, round look? which one looks more professional?

I am a liberal. Are you saying that makes me automatically lazy? Brilliant.

thats right, all us *pro-labor* liberals have done nothing but ruin the airline industry. if only conservatives were in charge to really set us straight and disband all unions and take away workers rights, and make us wear our uniforms. haha this is awesome i love it, people are getting fired up.
