If I can do that, I sure as hell will keep them on walking through a bright sun-lit terminal as I do what is best for my eyes. I have never seen a pilot or anyone else in any profession and thought that this person looks less professional because they have their sunglasses on at an 'inappropriate' time.

I do jump-seat a bit and I usually have my i-Pod on in-flight as a passenger to drown out the noisy kids and crying baby which are always no more than 2 rows away from me. I often don't wear it while walking in the terminal but that is only because I like to be able to hear what is happening around me. I've never thought that it looked unprofessional. What then say you about pilots using their cell phones as they walk? What if the cell phone is Bluetooth and they use an earpiece?

And for the record, I take extreme pride in my appearance when in uniform, I am always well-groomed, my shirts are bright white and well pressed/seamed, my shoes are clean and in good condition.[/QUOTE/]

What's seems peculiar about the entire premise of this topic is the opposition that individuals have to looking professional, or perhaps not since our profession is becoming less and less professional. Soon we can all wear cut off jeans and tank tops with our cool serewhatti glasses, sorry can't afford that crap on my sweet professional pay.

I will start by stating that I am an aspiring professional pilot and I am basing my opinion on being a passenger and not a pilot. Now there is a very important term in the previous sentence. It is PROFESSIONAL. It does not matter what you get paid. You are getting paid to be a professional pilot so do your best to look and act the part.

My job has me flying as a passenger around eight days a month. It is mostly on regional jets. I have noticed that the pilots at the RJ level seem to have a greater percentage of pilots that have a less professional appearance. However right or wrong I may base my opinion on said pilots, but I trust them less base on their appearance. They may be the best stick in the world. In my mind if they do not take pride in how they look, how are they going to take pride in how they fly. It does not matter what you think, it matters what your passengers think because we are paying the bills.

I will add this. My current employment has me in a position that allows me to advance careers of others. If I have two relatively equal qualified individuals in front of my and I have to choose one to advance. I will choose the one that I want representing the company even if that person is slightly less qualified. One can always improve their qualifications with time and effort, but in my experience a persons sense of appearance is ingrained and much more difficult to change.

I think everone should wear military style flight suits - you know the custom tailored "chick magnet" deep blue ones like the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels wear. Sunglasses and silk scarfs would be mandatory. :cool: :cool:

Could you expand on your post, I don't understand what you are saying and why you quoted my post?

My point was that looking professional has nothing to do with what brand anything you wear and whether you wear your shades and iPod in the terminal or not.
