:) I know everybody talks about SCAB's but we should nickname those pilots who dress unprofessionally as SLOBS. Be on the look out for them coming to a terminal near you :)

I thought pilots were professionals

This site is very informative, and there are many great people who post here. However, the more I read, the more I think the average regional airline pilot is an individual who is very unhappy with what he is doing, thinks anyone else wanting to do what he or she is doing is a scab, costing them money. Funny, the guys flying for the majors seem to have the same opinion of you guys. Not only does it make me think I don't want to set in the right seat with some upset, about to go postal, "airline pilot", but it makes me question even riding as a passenger on a regional airline. I'm sure the majority of pilots who post here are well qualified, and great guys. This opinion is not aimed at them.

Ok............ I understand that the industry has taken a beating, but I think its time we do more than "Complain" about it. As I walk through the airport, lately, I am seeing a lot of overweight (Mostly Older guys, young too "CAL"), sloppy looking pilots. Shave your face, brush your hair and shine your shoes. Also I dont think anybody, 777CA, or Beech 1900 FO should be allowed to wear Sketchers, or Doc Martins...................have some respect you look like a slob. Please Iron your shirt, and tuck in your shirt. I may very well be venting here, but the more sloppy we look to the public the more sloppy we as "Professionals" appear. Get your pants hemmed if their too long and if your shirt has Coffee stains that can't be removed, BUY a new one. Im proud of what we do, and try to present myself as such.........................Anybody ****ed off at how some of us carry oursleves on a day to day bases.

P.S. Not to rip on MESA, but in PIT I saw some MESA CA walking around with cheesy Oaklies, Doc Martins, and an IPOD headphones in his ears.................GROW UP!!!

I agree.. I recall when I was at a then well respected Southeastern "commuter" how many of the pilots (oddly the more senior ones) were so sloppy looking or in some cases completely out of uniform and contrasting it to the DAL pilots who (say what you want about them) were always in uniform..

If you want to get paid like a professional, then dress like one..

Here in the cargo world, we wear what ever we like once the cockpit door is closed, but at all times while in the sight of customers/and the public we are in uniform.. and I've year to see anyone who doesn't wear it properly and with some pride.

Good post Saab..

I agree with SAAB 100% on this one. Doc Martin's hold up a lot better...great...you don't see people walking around in suits with those on until you get to the airport and your CA is wearing them. I own an Ipod, but that doesn't mean I go strolling through the airport rockin' out for all the world to see. Throw the Oakley's away and get Ray Ban's...this is work, not a homo-erotic beach volleyball game.

You want to be treated like a professional...look and act like one.

They're not cheap, but a pair of Mephisto's work style black shoes will both hold up better than Doc, and make you more comfortable than a worn pair of sneakers.. Invest in the health of your feet.. you only have 1 pair.

I agree that we must be professionals. But we must also be paid like professionals. And few of us in the world of 'regional' airplanes are paid or treated like professionals by our respective companies.

We must take the high road. I agree with that.

But we must also expect our companies to treat us like professionals and adults and pay us accordingly.

One does not come without the other.

I'm sure those guys in suits do a great deal of walking on concrete ramps. Sunglasses are important...after all, since I only wear them in the cockpit and when walking on the ramp, my co-workers are the only ones that really see them, and I'm sure they get pretty upset about how I look in front of them. I should clean up my act and get those aviators so I can meet the stereotype.

Are you serious? You can't find a decent pair of shoes that will hold up for the 100 foot walk around an RJ??

And I forgot that every airport in America has banned windows so no one can see you anymore. Of course, that doesn't matter since your Oakleys are probably on top of your head while your hat is stashed neatly on your rollerboard as you walk triumphantly through the airport hoping some soccer mom will hit on you. And while we're on stereotypes...the oakley's you wear fit you into the stereotype of "lifeguard" or "serial rapist".
