Sure you can have high expectations however the reality is that they will not be met. Your father is enjoying the last of the good old days. No one is sure if UAL will even survive. Just the the other day UAL mentioned that they need to cut another 400 Million.
I am forced to assume that most people here desire to have a middle class lifestyle. If you harbor dreams of living in a studio apartment alone then I am sure your dreams are within reach. Outside of that it is highly unlikely that you will be able to reproduce the lifestyle your father was able to provide.

Why would you say something so condecending? What makes you think that I am going to live in a studio, alone? (when I'm married?) Just because I enjoy a simplistic lifestyle does not mean I will live in a studio apartment; not that there's anything wrong with that in the first place. Actually, I want to live on a sailboat. :-) Grandfather was a great sailor on top of being a pilot for 40 years. But anyway, you have no right and no place telling me what lifestyle I will and will not produce. You don't know anything about me and you think you can draw these conclusions just based on RJ payscales? Have a look at fedex, UPS and a few of the others. I can survive very well on even 60K a year and that does not mean that my quality of life is less than yours. I think it's about time you give it a rest, pal. A lot of people here are getting worn out on your crap.

At least your being honest. I'll remember what you said and hopefully we'll both be on the forum when my position changes from cessnas to CRJ FO, living in poverty, in S.C., in van down by the river. You've got it nailed. I'm destined to be impoverished. lol!

C'mon guys. This career rocks! Think about it. Selling cell phones? YGTBSM. I just got back from a 33 hour HNL layover where 3 crews went out for dinner and drinks. Throw in a little beach time and a 6 hour flight back in a 767 and you have the perfect trip. But I guess I could be selling houses or working in a cubicle. NOT! We are damn lucky!
