Unfortunately, I'm not current (last flight 8/26/05). I have a job outside of aviation right now, and I guess that is the only way to assume my lack of currency from my resume.

In any case, you would think that if Republic is hurting that bad for pilots that they would want to interview someone with my background and experience (my jet time is all EMB 145/140/135) or maybe they just like the folks with lower times and less experience (not a dig at low timers, just an observation). Dunno.

Maybe it is the currency thing. I guess I need to get that CFI renewed so I can start from scratch.

they're actually offering $2500 to ERJ and CRJ200 pilots that pass IOE, so they're hurting.

go out and get instrument current, log some ME time, and give er another shot.

Well I wanted to avoid having to $buy$ flight time, but I guess there is no avoiding the unavoidable in breaking into this business, AGAIN. However, I think if I'm going to buy flight time, I will put it to use as in getting my CFI renewed.

Anyway, what is the wait period between submitting an application and then re-applying at Republic?

I don't mean this as an insult to you, but at the interview today we were told
"Republic has lowered minimums, but not standards." My guess is, your lack of recent experience is what's hurting you.
(By the way, I got April 5th for the CHQ 145.)

What I always say:

Marriage is an institution based on love.
Love is blind.

Marriage is an institution for the blind!

Not insulted by you, but the premise. So you are telling me that because I have not flown for 1 1/2 years, I am considered to be lower than standard. Rusty maybe, but not below the standards.

After, several 121 PCs, many hours of 121 flying experience, countless emergency situations, 135 PIC operations including actual engine outs, dodging t-storms and eating ice, meeting an on demand schedule and an airline schedule, acting as the PIC when not actually type rated and holding the CA position (that gives away where I used to fly), and being employed by an airline for over 7 years without a violation or incident makes me less than standard?

Look, I don't expect to be given the job based on my experience. I need to prove myself in an interview, but not to have even been given the chance (when they are hurting for pilots) to come in and talk about my experience and let them know why I haven't flown in 1 1/2 years amazes me.

So again, I guess after the many hard working years that I put forth in this industry, I need to start all over? If that's what it takes, then I guess I have to play that game because I do miss it. However, that doesn't mean I have to agree with it. Well enough whining from me. Time to get working on it.

Sorry about the rant. It's not aimed at you, just the process. I have to admit, I am puzzled about the state of airline (specifically regional airline) hiring practices.

DirectBears,

Did you put why you weren't current in a cover letter? And all that experience?

I'd reapply, put all information in a cover letter, and send that and a resume in an overnight to Linda (overnight because better chance she'll actually open it rather than an assistant with less operating discretion).
