Good Luck! Better start taking pilots at 250TT and 25 multi or you'll loose them to MAG or GoJets.
You are not the first person to tell me that...right now our mins are 700/50, but I have passed the feedback along that I've gotten here, because it seems like a lot of them are WAY low.

The number one way to get your info out to prospective pilots is word of mouth reputation. This may sound cliché, but it is true. I instructed at two different schools, and it was the same thing. As soon as the weather went bad, all the instructors sat in the instructor office discussing which regional was good and which was bad. Former instructors are contacted continuously and an overall (pretty accurate) impression is made by the instructors.

You saw that RAH had a huge spike in applicants when they introduced their training bonus. C5 had a huge spike when they announced that they were getting Dash 8's and upgrade would be less than a year. Now that they are changing their cue on growth, they cannot get anyone to call them back. Pilots are avoiding XJT like the plague considering their uncertainly of survival. And Mesa only gets pilots that got turned down at three interviews already, or at such low times that no one else is interested yet.

I hate to make things look dark for you, but getting pilots is really out of HRs control. It is mgmts.

I had lunch with two instructors in the DTW area today and posed the question to them. They said their priority was in order:

1. Company reputation in industry (especially how they treat their pilots)
2. Upgrade time
3. First two year FO and first four year CAPT pay
4. Jet time over prop time
5. Training situation (ie, training pay, single occupancy hotel, bonus, etc)

I asked what airlines they feel are at the top of the list at their flight school and they collectively said:

1. Pinnacle
2. Mesaba
3. RAH
4. SKW
5. AWAC

The places to avoid where:

1. XJT
2. Mesa
3. ASA
4. Comair
5. Great Lakes

You can see where location always plays a big role with Pinnacle and Mesaba being at the top of the list in the DTW area.

Hope all of this helps.

Listing XJT with Mesa, Great Lakes and Comair? HMMMMMMMMMM............i dunno. Given your criteria XJT has an excellent reputation, low upgrade time, great pay and the best work rules for an ALPA regoinal, all jet time, and an excellent training program (pay, room and board etc)...... Why was TSA or gojet not on your avoid list? AWAC has more uncertainty only flying for airways.......... Not trying to bash your post by anymeans, everybody thinks something different. I just think XJT is a pretty good company and does not belong with companies like Mesa and great lakes.

MKing84 I do not take offense at all I agree that everyone has their opinion. XJT is definitely a love or hate airline right now. I believe that they were the best regional just a few years ago. But so was Independence at the beginning. I had a prof at ERAU point out a great point about XJT. Their cost are one of the highest in the regional industry. CAL is going to slowly but surely replace them with cheaper flying (RAH, and various Dash operators), XJT will have difficulty lining up service when everyone else is able to do it cheaper. And branded flying in ERJs against SWA looks really risky.

I would love to see it all work for them. But I would not chance my aviation career with such a risk.

The other thing to remember is that a lot of pilots in the industry is rooting against XJT considering how poorly they treated others in the past. i.e, good cop/bad cop interviews that insulted a lot of people, and the we are a major while everyone else is below us.

I know for a fact that a CommutAir pilot was told he could not jumpseat on a XJT from CLE last week because C5 is stealing XJT flying. This has happened to RAH pilots recently also. Both these carriers have an all CAL family agreement that supersedes CASS. XJT must not be stealing anyones flying when they fly for DL out of LAX?

The number one thing on the list is reputation. And students/instructors are hearing these stories and in some cases XJT pilots are being bashed more than Mesa's Mgmt.

I really want to see XJT become a success since I have several friends there and most importantly my wife flies with them. Ask a senior person at XJT and they will tell you that XJT is too much a risk. Do not ask a FO, they are still drinking the company juice.

Just a few years ago they were knee deep in furloughs. Now they are out, expanding, and hiring. It's definitely a love or hate airline? I haven't heard anyone say they hate it. Commair=Love/hate. Pinnacle=Love/Hate, Mesa=Hate/Hate. Republic=Love/love. XJT=Love/didn't get called so wtf.

If you believe that then XJT is one of the ones at the top. Not bottom. Great reputation, industry leading pay, nice upgrade time, all jets, who really cares about training it's short and gets you out there. I don't know what they pay. Republic pays $400/week

There any senior XJT people here to comment? I've also really only heard positive feedback from XJT people, and they seem to be doing quite well.

I would like more info, as they are my number 2 choice.

It sounds to me like somebody had a bad experience with XJT and is trying to persuade others. I went to Parks College (wish i didnt) and they fed everybody this midguided BS that led most of them to fly for emperor hulas. XJT far exceeds most regionals, and seeing them take 44 airplanes that were parked and do something with it is proactive, rather than furloughing pilots which is what most do...ie TSA.
