Default Pilot Perks

Reading another thread and a post by airsupport talking about the deal his company had with FedEX and his ability to ship packages at a nice reduced rate it got me thinking....

Never would have thought that such a perk existed and now I am wondering what other kinds of perks are out there that people may or may not know about? Anyone with any good ideas as to some of the more subtle benefits to the job please chime in....

Besides the big benefit of free air travel and reduced rates for spouses/gf, etc. There is also reduced rates for hotels. I have friend in based in SJU, he can get cheap hotel rooms on any of the other islands. Its it pretty good deal.

You also get discounts on Cell Phone service, purchasing a new car at select dealerships, Vacation Packages, Apartments give discounted rates, Auto insurance, Banks, there is all kind of discounts available. We also have discounts on Phillips TV products, Dell Computers. I bought my home computer through our discount program. Lots of guys buy their HD flatscreen tvs witht he discount. Enjoy

Most large corporations have discount programs for different things.

My mom works for a legacy airline (not a pilot) and I have experienced all these benefits first hand.

Obviously the biggest perk is being able to fly anywhere for free (or VERY cheap). I have flown on the airliner maybe 300+ times in my life, and most of that was free, only recently a small service charge of about 1 penny per mile ($25 to New York). If you check the loads and fly at the right time, you can often get first class. Hotels and rental cars are the things you get the biggest discounts on. My parents have gotten $250+ hotel rooms for like $80 a night. Good rental cars for like $20 a day. Also, there are some interline deals on cruises. Most airports give 10% discount on food for airport employees.

Some other benefits are with major corporations doing business with that airline. For example, Sprint (Nextel) provides service for company cell phones. Therefore, employees of that airline get a 25% discount on sprint phone plans. That is like $12 a month for me...$144 a year...$1,440 over 10 years...you see the idea. We also get a good discount on FedEx shipping. There are some other corporations with these type of deals, but I cannot think of them off the top of my head.

everything people say here is more than likely true, just depends on airline. All of the hotels we stay in at our out stations will give us corporate rate, around 35-45 dollars, just show your id. Through our company website we can rent a car from enterprise for about 20 bucks a day (good deal there), whats funny is we even have a guide that says all the different discounts we receive and how to get them.

The Flight attendant will buy you a free drink if you have any resemblance to one of their grandchildren.
