Even if you got the base you wanted, why put up with being worked like a slave with minimal days off and everything else working against you. Being based where you want and not having to commute is kind of a moot point when you are miserable with your job, all it means is you get to go home every now and then and sulk in base.

Also at mesa, if you don't get hired into the dash-8 you will NEVER, EVER be allowed into DEN. Since the dash program is downsizing, your odds of getting the most popular dash base are slim.

Do SKW instead; regardless of where you start you will eventually be able to bid into DEN in a year tops.

Remember, if mesa's lips are moving, they are lying!

I haven't seen anything from the company that say this is the case. In fact, the bid came out last week to close 2 of the domiciles in the northeast. This is just the begining of pilots being displaced. We just closed a base for the 1900 in NY and are closing another in NM next month. All said in a couple months we will be about 6 domiciles shorter which means every base is getting more senior.
If the talk about Air Midwest being sold comes true then there will be MAJOR displacements as their are some pretty senior guys sitting on the 1900 that will NOT go to a jet. So this only leaves the dash. It would place about 150 more pilots into the Mesa/Freedom ranks and cause major displacements. I think their is truly some merit to this rumor this time. We sold 2 airplanes to Big Sky two weeks ago and are supposedly accepting bids on our hanger in JLN which has two more aircraft based there.
The Air Midwest pilot group has not been allowed into open enrolment for insurance for some reason...company won't say. We have also been CNXing flight due to lack of crews on the 1900 yet Mesa sent word they aren't handling hiring anymore for Air Midwest....Then when we tried to hire some guys they stoped the class date and said no more new hires indefinately...So their is actually a hiring pool now at Air Midwest...I know stop laughing .

Anyway, there is a lot of wierd stuff going down right now.

Default Air Midwest

Sorry to hijack the thread, but as a former Air Midwester what's going on with them these days? How many pilots/planes are they operating now a days and what bases.

Well, Last I checked we had about 20 airplanes and as for domiciles, it is hard to keep up with but moving from east to west
1. Charleston SC
2. Lancaster PA
3. Dubois PA
4. Pittsburgh PA
5. Marion IL
6. Columbia MO
7. Jonesboro AR
8. Kansas City MO
9. Joplin MO
10. Salina KS
11. Garden City KS
12. Mc Cook NE
13. Farmington NM
14. Hobbs NM (Closing on May 31st)
15. Cedar City UT
16. Visalia CA

I think that is all off the top of my head. I might have missed one somewhere. All have 1 aircraft and 3 crews in base except PIT, MCI, FMN, and JLN (JLN has 2 planes and 6 crews)

Oh and I just took a look at my pairings for this next bid starting next week and we are so short on FO's that they don't even have one assigned to my legs. I guess Mesa is going to try for the single pilot stuff since they put a hold on new hires for Air Midwest. If you like having any certainty in life this is not the place to be....well or the industry for that matter.

Don't forget the soon to be closed MKE base for Midwest Airlines, now that SKYW is bringing in RJ's.

That would be Skyway, not Air Midwest... and they're not closing as of yet.

She was referring to Midwest (national carrier based in MKE), not to Air Midwest (the 1900 commuter unit of mesa).

No, she was responding to a question somebody had about Air Midwest (who flies 1900s), but gave an answer about Midwest Connect (Skyway), who also flies 1900s. Read it again and you'll see.

Hmmm. Now I'm confused. I'll just go away now.
