Does anyone carry a steamer?

I've done it too. Turn the shower on and let it run. Any hard creases you'd have to iron anyway and every hotel has one.

I've never had an issue in a hotel, either steaming a jacket or taking a shower. Colleges may not expect you to deploy a smoke machine, but hotels do expect that you'll take a shower... maybe a long hot one.

It does happen. I have had it happen to me 3 times over the last few years.

What on earth do I have to gain by lying about steam setting off a fire detector?
Do you just enjoy arguing about the most banal things?

I’ve set off at least one doing a long steam. They expect steam in the bathroom, they don’t expect steam in the main room but depending on how hot you turn the shower and the efficacy of the vent fan it can set them off.

1. It's never happened to me, or anyone I know after many years in the industry.
2. Hotels would be really stupid to have smoke detectors which will go off if someone takes a long shower, regardless of whether the door is open or shut. If they did that, then hotel fire alarms would be going off constantly, which they're not.
Not saying it could never happen, but I wouldn't refuse to use the shower on that premise

I can't help myself when people say obviously stupid crap.

I think you should concede that you are wrong on this one. I have been to hotels that have signs that specifically say "shut the bathroom door to avoid setting off the smoke/fire detector".
