Pretty much the same everywhere. With better money at quite a few I don’t see the draw.

If you think the flow is a guarantee that you won't get stuck for life then you don't understand history or the industry very well.

In priority order.

Pick your regional like you’re going to spend the rest of your career there. You probably won’t. But you just might. I fly with plenty of people who were in class at a major or even waiting on OE at one (got the type to show for it) when something happened and they ended up out of a job and back at the regional.

Hope for the best. Plan for the worst. Your career progression can fall apart in a day, with as little as one stroke of a pen. Pick a company you could spend the rest of your career with, and that you can come back to with seniority if the next step doesn’t pan out for whatever reason.

Anyone starting at ExpressJet now will probably upgrade around two years or less.

That is still to be seen. Subodh has a tendency to park planes just to get new planes in the air. I see 145’s sitting on a ramp somewhere while the 175’s start to fly.

It has been a pretty darn good guarantee so far.

I think the point he’s making is that if pilots start getting stuck at the regionals then that probably means the majors have stopped hiring in which case the flow would also come to a screeching halt.

You’re right that the flow is working now, but pilots are also getting hired everywhere at a faster rate than what the flow offers.

So what's the downside of the flow then?

Remember - I didn't bring it up. I suggested Envoy because of fast upgrades and no wait for a class date.

Downside of flow is it tends to drive down pay rates and work rules relative to the rest of the industry. Whether or not the tradeoff is worth it depends on personal factors and how long you expect the flow to take.
