This is such b.s. Does anyone really think that pilots, mechanics, the TSA, FAA or ATC aren't doing their job professionally because their pay is delayed? Seriously?!

Do you remember IMSAFE? Job performance is going to be degraded if you’re stressed out about money. Most ATC’s are probably going to be ok but I doubt many TSA agents have a huge rainy day fund. Just because they’ll eventually get back pay doesn’t mean they can pay rent/utilities/childcare with IOU’s. Some landlords/creditors are working with federal employees but others aren’t.

Non-essential feds aren’t working so there’s less oversight overall. As far as I know ASI’s aren’t working. The longer this goes on the more the ship goes off course.

This is what happens when an entire industry is over regulated and dependent upon the government.

There has been talk in the past about privatizing ATC. The controllers fight it every time. It is extremely difficult to fire a federal employee. Look at some of the class delta towers that are non-FAA. They are paid a fraction of what the federal controllers make for the same job.

Tsa is an illusion. They really don’t prevent anything. They are just there to make us feel better.

TSA is a deterrent. The lock on my car is easily picked or broken, or the window smashed, but your average criminal is just looking for an unlocked door. Anyone with half a brain can get past the TSA, but as bad of a thing as it is to say, all we can really hope for is making attacking another mode of travel easier than attacking air travel.

As the shutdown continues you’re likely going to see more and more ATC affected as well. I could probably survive for 2-3 months off of savings but I’m going to be nervous seeing that bank account dwindle in the mean time.

Implying the TSA improves safety in any way

Yeah the same group of McDonald workers federalized that miss 95% of items when they are checked. Like to pat down disabled old ladies and kids in wheelchairs. It’s a joke. Smoke and mirrors for sure. Just like when they had the national guard in the airports after 9/11 without ammo in their weapons. We are a nation that is about convenience so we play the game

Do either of you lock your car?

Why bother, people can pick the lock or break the window. Locking your car just makes it less attractive to opportunistic criminals.

TSA is not about catching a determined attacker, it’s about making other targets more attractive.

Besides, ATC is still watching their savings dwindle week by week. With no end in sight that still has to be a stressor, especially for people low on the totem pole who are perhaps still paying off student loans or a new house. Or are a single parent paying childcare. They can probably survive for awhile but eventually it’ll be time to pay the piper.

I agree which is why I don't understand your point. We both agree the TSA serves no real purpose other than just being there, so what does it matter how sharp the workers are or if they're getting paid or not?
