You’re not exactly being professional in your interaction if you’re too terrified to fly with them. I’ll be the first to admit that there are wild guys out there with little respect for women and very poor impulse control who do need to be reined in, but anyone who thinks there aren’t wild women out there with poor impulse control who will take advantage of the fact that a he-said/she-said can easily destroy a man’s career is an idiot. Personally, I think if you have someone keeping the home fires burning and taking care of the kids, that’s where you ought to be looking for romance. And if you don’t, I’d strongly recommend you look for... whatever, outside of your own employee pool. |

It’s one thing to flirt with female coworkers when it’s 2004 and you work a the mall. I used to do it. Good times. I was a kid. I stopped it almost immediately in 2008 when I got into the military and we were briefed on “no woman on base being single” by AFOSI. The connotation being that if you have consensual relations with them and their deployed husband finds out, 8 times out of 10 she’ll cry rape. The military judicial process is a little more objective than a corporate firing squad, but only a little. Her word is always worth more. I will not take any chances. You’re right in thinking I’m scared. I’m terrified. The thought of losing the decade I spent trying to get to a regional only to have it stripped away by a some thot with an axe to grind is terrifying. Like I said, a problem I want to stay lightyears away from. Its kinda peculiar when people are shocked to discover men don’t want to expose themselves to unnecessary risk and treat female coworkers and employees as liabilities. It’s just simple cause and effect. |

I mean, the check airman could just make up anything and get me fired right? While I’m at it, I’m never going to drive again. A cop could pull me over for no reason and plant drugs on me, and no one will believe me. The FA’s I can kind of see, but your female captains and FO’s are trusted, trained professionals. What a terrible way to treat your coworkers. |
I can always count on APC to learn new things. I had to google thot, neet, and incel. I’m only in middle age and I feel like a dinosaur trying to figure out what the young’ns are saying.

Actually, I have to throw in with MedSledDriver on this one. While I wouldn’t refuse to fly with a woman pilot (hey, CVRs can be your friend too) the “Dear Colleague” letter that came out in Title IX during the Obama administration pointed out that - for men - the historical presumption of innocence regarding criminal acts involving sex was now gone. You were either inherently to be disbelieved because of your gender, or so steeped in “toxic masculinity” that it was presumed you simply couldn’t help yourself.

Nothing is totally safe, but if you play stupid games, you’re gonna win stupid prizes. I’m electing to not play. That’s as simple as I can make it for you. To deny that men have the deck stacked against them and to only focus on how it might affect “trusted” female captains and FOs is blatantly ignorant and.... not professional. |

In other industries this is affecting women negatively as much as the men. Men won’t have closed door meetings with women unless a witness is present and no more men women subordinate dinners or lunches or even possibly mentoring among other things. In some way the whole dilemma puts women down on the corporate advancement ladder. Pretty much if it’s not in public it’s frowned upon and can lead to like most of you posted a “he said she said” situation.

I'll go out with the crew if we are clicking and when we do its always a good time.
I just put out the "married guy" vibe and never have any issues. Call me inexperienced, but I feel like the only way youd run into issues is if you were looking for issues. Just be a decent person and that's pretty much all that's required. |

Or as ugly as a mud fence daubed with lizards.... ;) I’ve seen the result of a “false accusation” of a “good guy” and the years of torment it caused the victim. I’ve also seen the fallout from a true false accuser, but guess what, nobody who carried themselves with integrity got touched. I’m quite familiar with the processes in place dealing with these situations. It’s much more in depth than “he said/she said.” |

Side note, what do you do if they call in a reserve for you and they’re female? Call in sick and strand your passengers? Or do you let crew services know ahead of time you require a male pilot? |

No. not really. First of all, I’m no math whiz but 6% is not even close to half of anything. I bet the number of female captains is even smaller than 6%. It’s rare that I have to drop a trip. Second of all, I thought I haven’t been picked up by a major because I only have 700 hours of SIC time...and I don't check any affirmative action boxes...and I didn’t apply. I guess I should look into that stuff huh. 🤔 |
You gotta be trolling.

For the one who won't set foot in an elevator alone with a female; maybe you're better suited to living in the middle east. |
Not always career-ending. This guy is at Delta now.

Thank you. :) |
I like hanging out with the crews.
Male, female, gay, straight, white, black, brown, yellow, red or blue. The grannies and grand pa’s. I will avoid hanging out with women my age who I find attractive for the sake of my marriage. I do tend to avoid the satan worshipping commies. Actually I did have some drinks with a satan worshipping FA so scratch that last example. She was not a commie though. |
Here is my view, I'm married so I don't go out alone with any FA's alone. Just doesn't seem like it's anything my wife would like to hear even if nothing happens. I'll go out with my female captain for dinner but won't drink and that's it. Again, more because my wife would appreciate it.

It must be different at other airlines. At my airline FAs will write you up for anything. A union rep shared with me a story about an FO that got fired, during the pilot shortage, because he took an $8 snack pack and was reported by an FA. He was in New Mexico doing FFDO training on his own time off when management called him and he couldn’t make it back in time for a meeting, which was within his rights to do according to our contract. Another story happened on an overnight; two female FAs and one male pilot. They were drinking and having a good time in the hotel hot tub. They all three decided to go back to the same hotel room. Showed up for work the next day without issue. Weeks later, after one of the FAs husband found out, rape charges were held against the pilot. You can guess what happened after that. FAs can have as many souls as they want, they’re still liabilities that will not hesitate to throw you under the bus if it suits their immediate interests and/or makes them feel empowered. Same is true for female pilots. Search for “Blackout Betty” on here if you need an example. I’ll be a dork all I want. I’m not giving them any opportunity. |

In my experience, the players looking for an easy lay have the most problems with crazy women.
Everyone else is safe. A few dorky guys think women are out to get them because they have a good job. |

If you aren't trolling, you really should seek therapy because your attitude towards women is toxic. There is nothing wrong with seeking help. You won't be seen as any less "manly" by talking to a professional and working through your issues. |

And with attitudes like that, they wonder why so few women pursue a career in aviation.

Just stay in public and stay professional. That’s it. I’m not going to put myself in a situation with more risk exposure just because you feel my attitudes towards women are “toxic.” What I do might seem excessive now, but in a few years you might see more men do the same. It’s simple cause and effect. I’ve seen these problems with gender dynamics in the military, a full decade before #metoo. I saw CFIs and DPEs get blindsided by false accusations in flight schools. I saw it in the part 135 side of the industry too. I don’t care if you find it offensive, noticing a pattern isn’t a sign of a mental disorder. I’m not going to put myself in any situation where it’s her word against mine without any witnesses or evidence. Period. |
