But the guys coming off active duty should have no problem. There are lots of guys getting out at my current base and almost all of them are going to Southwest/UPS/FedEx/Fractionals/ACMI Carriers....etc.
yeah one the f16 guys in our group only had 1200hrs tt. most of that was made after 9-11 doing 5 hour circles over dc..... man i have to peee...

My resume is pretty competative at several majors. I've been reading through a ton of "aviation interviews.com" postings, and the real key is not the resume, but having someone walk in your paperwork. I worry that my 3-years away from flying will be an issue with the majors (and the regionals). I definitely intend to try for a major, but I'm okay with the regionals too - just want to get my foot in the door and air under my arse again.

I found this post very interesting...I am experiencing a very similar situation except I have been out for only five months. I left flying to help my father with my mother who died last month. I am trying to get a flying job...I have my app into just about everybody that is hiring, but the only bite I have so far is from a regional...probably one of the better regionals out there, but it is still a first officer position and a long upgrade time. I should be pretty competitive at most majors but I don't have any connections. Best of luck to you!

CAL might be tempting, but why settle for $29/hr first year FO pay??? That's only SLIGHTLY better than most regionals.

haha. well ripeagle even with being out of the airplane for a while you should be ok, i mean you wont be going to fedex, but yea why not cal or southwest (a fighter pilot favorite).

someone mentioned it earlier, but maybe ACMI would be a good compromise. I notice some guys are hiring like Southern Air, Cargo 360, atlas, etc. who knows, 6 months of flying with one of those outfits and youll be scooped up by a major.

It's a shame that a company would apply such a policy towards someone with a military background. These companies must know that the military routinely returns pilots to the cockpit after their obligatory 2-4 years in non-flying staff jobs. No questions asked.
