Dont live in Manhattan, and if you are in the heart of NYC sell you car. Places like Brooklyn, Queens, are not that expensive and there are nice areas. I am commuting from Philadelphia. I thought about moving to North Jersey or NYC, but the drive is not that bad and I can get a place 10 times nicer for the price in philly, and I am from there..a 2 hour drive is not a bad commute compared to what some people do (aka flying across the country to go to work) I know people who commute from philly and areas of equal distance and it is not bad. considaring reserve is not very long, it will be even easier to commute.

I guess it's out of the question to get MCO at this point.

Some people have been getting MCO after staying in JFK for a few months, but you will be on reserve for a very long time. You can hold a line in JFK fairly soon, and commuting from Florida to JFK is pretty easy. You have a lot of options!

CRJDriver,

Thanks for the quick response. NYC is expensive just thinking about it. Are crash pads hard to find, etc.

Of course NYC is expensive, but not everywhere. I'd say most crashpads are between $200-$300/month. You won't be on reserve at JFK very long, and once you hold a line your commute will be a lot easier as well, and you could almost stay at a hotel if you needed to stay for a night. Check out some of the crashpad sites on the net. You might also find some stuff on Craigslist, but usually the bulletin boards in the crew rooms have listings.

I guess planning your time gets a lot easier once you hold a line. What kind of month can you expect once you hold a line?

Thanks

I love it here at Comair. Good people, good trips, and overall a great experience.

oh you can't live in NYC you need to live somewhere else. Heck the pay almost doesn't cover my car payment. But you get a crash pad and stay there for 250$ a month and between your crashpad and the hilton/sheraton you only have a couple nights where you have to stay at the homeless shelter or sleep in your car at the employee lot. Heck makes you look forward to going back to work just so you have a shower!

My checkride is about a week away. I found a place in Kew Gardens to stay. I'm just going to flat out live in a private room for $450 I found off Craigslist. I'm from DFW and really don't feel like commuting that so I'd rather be right there where all the action is. If you can't find it in New York, it doesn't exsist! Can't wait to start flying.
