Default Adding corrective lenses

Anyone had corrective lenses added to certificate, while at airlines? Any difficulty? Going to have to get glasses before my next medical probably. Never had them and not sure how the process works for medical and certificate.

I can't imagine there would be anything that would disqualify you assuming that is the only change. As long as you disclose it you should be fine.

Absolutely not a problem as long as you correct back to 20/20 distant and 20/40 near.

Most people recommend an extra pair in the flight bag and correcting sunglasses as well.

Exclamation Your AME will determine this

When you go for your 1st Class Medical and you take the vision test, either you will be fine or your AME will put something like... “corrective lenses must be worn” or something like that. I will say that it wouldn’t hurt to go to an Optometrist or Opthamologist before you see your AME, and find out exactly what lenses you need ahead of time so you show up prepared for the AME and then you can take the test with you lenses on.....

Nothing is added to your actual pilot cert., only the medical. It’s not a big deal.

I forgot to mention this, some airlines do require a spare set of glasses or contacts to be brought on trips.

Get SAFA checked in Europe, “show me your spare glasses?” is almost the first question from the inspector.

I've never had it requested here. One LCA jokingly asked me if I had one, but I don't think it's very well enforced at my airline unless you start causing problems (cancelling flights because you're missing correction)

Personally I wear contacts, so I typically carry a spare set of contacts as well as glasses just in case.
