Are you for real trying to make that argument?
Its Non-Towered by the way and has been for many, many years.

It takes a special, stingy type of cheap b@stard to not use <4% of their per diem out of their often six-figure salary to not tip $1 to a driver for handing your bag. No more than $400 a year.

Get some perspective. Tipping culture may suck, but it does exist.

I am not saying this is great money but we are talking about jobs that have zero requirements to start working at them.

hopefully we move past this.

You aren't tipping out of charity, you're tipping to encourage above and beyond service. Drivers who watch flight aware so they are at the curb waiting those who enthusiastically put your bags away and give you tips of what to do, get tips. The driver is paid to drive from A to B. Any other behavior should be rewarded.

The standard tip in the US is a dollar per bag. It’s for the work he does loading and unloading your bag.

then some of the folks on my van rides owe about $69 per ride for all the bags they’re dragging on a 3-day trip!

No, they don't 'have to" handle my bag. They force it out of my hands because they want a tip. They "have to" drive the van to and from the hotel. If they are for some reason required to handle my bag, then that's their job, and what they get paid for.

If I get exceptional service from the driver, I've got no problem throwing a buck or two their way. But the late driver, or the one who acts like it's an inconvenience to be there, or drives the van like they stole it, etc? Nah...

In proper context:

"They have to handle my bag" in order to get a tip from me.

Poor service nullifies the tip.

Man, there are some cheap-ass pilots out there.

TiredSoul 01-17-2020 04:28 PM

It’s hilarious watching you bleeding hearts try and tip a van driver in Europe or Asia....with a single US dollar bill.

I used euros or pounds when I flew to Europe. The drivers always seemed happy.

Now that I fly to Latin America (various countries) I don’t carry local cash. I tip in greenbacks. Again, the drivers always seem happy.

One place you never want to tip is Japan. It’s an insult. I hope that one day the rest of the world is the same, but in the meantime I’m not going to fight the good fight to try to change the world, unlike some on this thread.
