How much input does a newhire have, when given the nod to begin training, in requesting a certain aircraft or specific base?

As far as I know, you will get whatever equipment the have vacancies for and you will be based whatever base they have vacancies for. If you can refrain from being picky up front, you can hold anything in a relatively short amount of time.

Crashpad/hotel

Quick question for you Mesaba guys based in DTW. Do any of you know the crew rate for the Metropolitan Hotel or who to contact about a possible crashpad there? In groundschool some of the Captain upgrades mentioned they had a crashpad there; I just got off IOE and I am looking for a place for the rest of November.

Where is Mesaba getting it's 200's ? Is NWA pulling them off PNCL?.

Yes, so far 15 are coming from 9E, and we have two that NWA bought new just prior to the bankruptcy. 17 total by next summer.

Quite a lot actually but DO NOT be obnoxious about it. Be a team player and most people seems to be getting the base they want as soon as they finish their training. Upgrade is coming so fast if you are ATP qualified, it does not matter which AC you get assigned unless you have an obsession to fly a particular AC.
