During your first week of class you will have a chance to sign up to be paired with an ALPA mentor. These are exactly the kinds of questions your ALPA mentor would be happy to help with, so be sure to feel free to ask.

A lot of things at Mesaba are better explained through a conversation, rather than via web board.

Yes, you will be an employee the first day and will be able to list. They will give you the number the first day and from there it is pretty self explanatory. Listing early does not give you a better chance of getting on, it is all based on seniority and what company you are a part of and what company the plane is.

I haven't had much luck with my ALPA mentor, only heard from him once. I've found this board to be a much better resource for information as well as asking other people around the center how things work. Plus you won't get your mentor till the end of training.

Depending on where you are from getting to home and back can be very tough.

And very risky. Especially your first weekend in training. I am not sure if they would actually fire you for missing one day of training, but they sure threaten it (ie if you miss a day from trying to travel home and you arent able to make it back on time for some reason)

There's nothing wrong with using the boards, it's just sometimes easier to get into the intricacies of things in a conversational format.

Have you tried contacting your mentor with questions? That's more how I understand the mentor program to work. Of course, I could be wrong...

I am a mentor.... From what I have seen it seems that we aren't assigned til about the 3rd week of your training, then if we are on trips we may not find out our assignment for several days later (I rarely check email when on a trip)... the best resource for those kinds of things are the captains you will have join you the start of the second week. Unfortunately being that it's all volunteer and on our own time that this program is done, it isn't always the most expeditious since someone isn't working on it full time. But it's certainly better than nothing... The purpose is more for what do I do between training and getting on the line. How does IOE work, where do I park, where do I get the airport ID, how do I bid, ect... Of course it's not limited to that and if you have any questions feel free to ask your mentor. I wish it had been in place when I was a new hire.

The mentor I was assigned has been great. Has been able to answer a lot of questions for me and give me information on how things work around here. He also calls every couple of weeks to see how training is going. All I can say is this is one great program they have in place here.

Actually you WILL get fired if you don't make it back. Happened to a guy in my class. I have heard that there have been a couple of more since then as well. NREV travel can be risky. Leave yourself plenty of options and time. Buy a ticket, rent a car, ride a horse, whatever, but don't be even one second late on Monday or you'll find yourself turning in your FOM and getting a one way positive space ticket home.

Sorry. Rant over.

What up 3D? Just crusin' the tread here... What a crazy thing that was when they pulled Columbus out of class and then he just came back and picked up his books and we never saw him again. Boy did he ever screw up a good thing by going home that weekend. Something still tells me there was a little lie about when he tried to make it back though... Just seemed like he was riding the edge of acceptable on many levels. No doubt, make it back for class!

Half way through the Saab sim now. Workin' it out...

NWA to reduce regional flying in the fall... Opinions? Thoughts? Anything to add?

I think we can comfortably figure where in the Redtail family the reductions are going to come. Anyone have a good rumor to add to this?

i would avoid nrev travel during training, you have enough to worry about when you are there.

study a few times during the day with some classmates and go out and relax.

if you do nrev your weekend will be filled with stress about loads coming home, weather cancellations etc
