Yes, hundreds of thousands of deaths and the crippling of the global economy but someone saying thank you to truckers is a silver lining.... GMAFB.

You didn't get the point kid. My point is that more people begin to realize what and who really makes this world go round. Not that the above compensates for deaths of any kind.

for evidence, I submit firefighters after 9/11, pilots after Sully, etc. |

You’re incredibly naive if you think that’ll last any longer than the current crisis. And if it doesn’t lead to better treatment of those essential workers in the future than what’s the point in some hollow words?

there were plenty of pilots however, who stuck their chests out because of sully’s Action. Assuming that the outcome would have been the same for them too. |

I was an A&P before I went airline. Many people told me I should have just stuck to flying and I would have been better off. This may be true but as I am now furloughed from a regional I am glad I got my A&P as I am working full time doing maintenance. Yes I would rather be flying, but I don’t have that option for awhile. At least I can pay the bills and afford kibbles for my dog. Trade school is a great choice and a great back up. Even better would be a degree that includes certificates in a trade. A few aviation universities provide a path to a 4 year, an A&P, and flight training.

Kirby also said it would be foolish to not be ready to be in a position to respond quickly if demand rebounds from 50-100 overnight. While I don’t believe this will happen, at least the company acknowledges the need to rapidly back build capacity if it should rebound.
I do think this chain of events adds on 3-5 years for regional guys getting hired, and those hired likely will be back to the realm of college degree, min 1000 pic, multiple types etc and create a new population of regional lifers. Also, for all the geniuses saying college degrees aren’t important... it’ll be the difference between you working at 7-11 and an office job with benefits/decent pay/stability etc when you’re furloughed. Get the degree, make sure it’s non aviation related. Once you get that degree, get a masters. The laziness amongst the uneducated in our field is truly astounding.

Do you really think that the global economy will recover from this that fast? Shelter in place orders are going on all over the world, businesses are going to fail from loss revenue, and not just the domestic, but the global economy is going to be hit hard. How can we have several months of this and be back to where we were in a year or less? United has already said that they expect our current reductions to intensify and last several months, followed by a slower than hoped for recovery, and a smaller company as a result.

Absolutely, anyone who claims to know what the timeline and recovery looks like is the village idiot

exactly, Kirby spoke out of both sides of his mouth. You can’t bounce back immediately mothballing (300) 50seaters. And I agree with you, we won’t see an instant snap back to 100%, but him making that statement just proves he’s in the same boat as the rest of us. He has no idea what the recovery is going to look like, and there are several plans, depending on what it does.
