Active Duty Military RW to Airline/Guard

I went to the last RTAG convention in Ft. Rucker. I was sent by my Guard unit to help run a booth and talk to Active Duty pilots getting out and pursuing a career in the 121 world.
I was extremely surprised to find out 80% of people I spoke with were not familiar about the Guard and how we(pilots) can use the National Guard to make extra money and better our QOL in the airlines. Lots of options these days with most Guard units still looking for pilots.
I am curious if many on here got out of active duty to chase the airline life and joined a national guard unit? With the current state of the airlines, having the guard life to fall back on would be a nice financial safety net.
I am not a recruiter but do know my unit in SC is looking to fill several slots. Even full time positions.

I love the guard and I am still in but I have a different job that suits it better. Are you in the training department at your unit? It might be worth coming up with a training plan to present to prospective recruits who are going to the airlines. Like how to work with people on the monthly drills and let them make them up on other days so they don't have to cancel trips. We've already been successfully doing virtual drills. I say we keep that going even after COVID. I can accomplish all that BS 350-1 with a CAC reader at home.
All your manning problems might be alleviated soon, though. I don't see the RTP programs sticking around after this.

I like where your head is at but being in the Army guard while working a regional airline schedule is less than ideal. There are many that make it work but its hard for the individual and hard for the unit. Clearly, the airline HAS to let you perform your military duties but what they DO NOT have to do is pay you your min guarantee. Example, if the min pay is 75 hours per month and you have to cancel a 4 day trip a month or even 2 four day trips, the airline will pro-rate that. At my regional, a four day trip equaled 16 hours of pay. So the money I gave up to go fly in the guard was not recouped. That is probably why you don't have too many airline pilots in the guard units. It's much easier for someone who has a normal job to show up after work to do an AFTP.

I work at a regional as well and really enjoyed using both to work for me. I would give scheduling my mil leave days and they would give me credit, partial credit, for the days I was on mil leave. This took the minimum credit awarded in PBS down so I wouldn't have to work as much if I didn't want to. As an FO, I would make more doing 2 AFTPs in one day. As a Captain, I could see losing out on money by doing this same method. The health insurance is one of the main reasons I will continue to stay in the guard. Hard to beat Tricare Reserve with any civilian coverage. I can't believe some of the deductibles people have to meet along with the high monthly payments!
Virtual drills!? Sounds like an amazing idea! Im actually working on a training plan now for the airline guys/gals. Im not in the training department but I am one of several at my command in the airlines. We have people at CommutAir, Mesa, Air Wisconsin, PSA, OO, American, and SouthWest.
