Default Delta vs Skywest round 1

well its official. Delta told ASA to get out of marathon florida. In doing so uncle jerry went down there and took all the phones, computers, desks, chairs, and his "we love jerry poster" with him. Delta asked if they would leave the stuff till they got something set up and jerry said .. uh no. so now what they are doing is delta is sending comair ground workers in there to handle the freedom guys who will be flying in there. i think that is the craziest thing i have ever heard. Comair ground crews handling freedom flights.... oh well. like i said uncle jerry is not happy about this, and by not happy i mean angry. he told the guys down there that have to pull the stuff out that he wont let it happen again... there will be more to come however.

what will be even more interesting to see is what will happen next.

you see back in the days when delta owned asa they could do whatever they wanted with them. and now even though skywest owns them delta is still trying to do whatever they want with them. and so far it is all contractually legal. as long as asa is flying in there on sat morning, one flight a week, delta is fullfilling the contract. it must have been intersting watching those guys rip all the phones out and signs down....

ok, just to clarify i am not saying that skywest and delta are getting a divorce, or that skywest is about to lose all their flying or anything. i don't know what all this means long term. we will just have to wait and see i guess. all i know is that they had a little falling out. where that leads who knows.

This won't be the first time Comair ground crews are handling a city Comair doesn't even fly to. Moline is one example I can think of.

That's pretty common in the regional world. AWAC still handles a number of UAX ground stations, even though they no longer fly any UAL.

The contract with DAL is for guaranteed present and future "flying," this doesn't mean flying can't be shuffled. So if DAL is pulling ASA out of Marathon then it is because ASA has pick up flying elsewhere. Remember there can't be a reduction in flying, this doesn't mean a reduction in destinations. One leg doesn't make up for 21 lost seeing that that would be a reduction in "flying." Now if you count the CR7's and other flying ASA has picked up & everything SKW has received since the agreement/purchase then I'm sure that the total flying by SKW Inc is still much greater than it was before purchase, therefore no preach of contract. Doesn’t mean JA's not disappointed.

BTW, I’m interested in how your friend knows what Atkins & Grinstein are doing/thinking. No offense but your info is extremely single sided.

Otherwise I enjoy your postings and I think you're a bright guy with a steady head on your shoulders. In the past you haven't fueled the fires of controversy so don't start now.

he knows because he heard it come out of his mouth in a meeting they had. also remember i never said it was a breach of contract. delta is using all the language in the contract to their advantage. like i said in the post before this i know it appears that it is one sided. that is what i was trying to clarify. i dont have a real stake in asa and skywest flying. but my friend does so of course when he tells me whats up it is one sided. i work at pinnacle, we fly for northwest with a little side flying for delta right now. i myself am not trying to be one sided, not even sure which side i was protraying. all i am saying is there is some funny business going on and i am not sure where it will lead. Like you said i dont fuel fires, and i don't post flame bait. everything i have ever posted on here has been "rumor" for a bit, then became fact. from 9e buying colgan, to pinnacle flying for delta. so once again i hope i am not comming across one sided. Delta will have 9 regional carriers by the end of the year. i guess we will have to wait and see how it all plays out.

I would dare SKW to try and get Delta on a breach of contract. The reason that DAL does what they want is this. Everything delta does is approved by their in house legal team. I mean everything. From who they hire to how they write contracts with DCI carriers to how they have you sign in to the crew software. This is one place that delta rarely missteps. Delta does not want SKW to get too powerful. They know what happens if they do. This whole DCI competition would loose some if its ground. They like prices very low from these carriers. Delta will do anything and everything to keep everyone guessing. That is what they do best.
