Anyone remember which FAR it is that prohibits us from using digital cameras in flight?
Does that also apply to digital videos?

There isn’t one. Only if it emits or receives a signal. There is a real handy flowchart for you to use on this page.

You can definitely use a film camera (above sterile).

You can probably use an digital camera or vid recorder *if* it has no wireless capability.

But pretty much all such devices do have built-in wireless these days, and the reg is written such that it applies to devices which have the *capability*... whether it's actually transmitting is irrelevant, if somebody wants to make a case.

You could try to argue that the reg was intended to apply to cell network signals, not wifi/BT but the language is vague on that.

But the tone of the video wasn't really enhancing to the AA brand... I'd be more worried about that. I have a buddy who got canned for less, a lot less.

That being said, at one 135 I worked at, the op specs / GOM clearly said "no video photography in the cockpit"
