Exclamation Got the e-mail from XJT

Be careful what you wish for.....

I applied to Express Jet in early March, and as of yesterday, no response. In the meantime, I accepted a new, salaried, CFI job, right near my house. It's great, but I'm really sick of flying around in circles (or more accurately, wathching other people fly around in circles)... So, I updated my resume, last night, and got the e-mail, today! They offered me interview dates 6-9 days away, and asked if I could start within two weeks of the interview date.

There is no way I can get truly prepared for this interview, in the one day off I have, between now and then. Hell, I can't even get off of work, from my current job, on that short of notice. I'd have to call in sick for a couple of days.

Express Jet is my 1st choice of Regionals, now that it looks like the West coast bases are going junior. My question is this...do I dare call them and ask for a later interview date, or is that the kiss of death?

Also, does anyone have any Mexican approach plates (like MZT) that they might be willing to scan, and e-mail me?

In a panic,

PBS

No need to panic.

Are you currently instructing? If so, you should be current on regs and Jepps.

Do not postpone that interview date unless you want to wait another three months. Maybe.

Search this forum and all the curveballs that are usually thrown in the interview have been discussed extensively.

Search the other online gouges, they are dead on.

MZT is like any other DME arc, find an arc and finger fly it. Be sure to brief the MSA and missed approach etc. Imagine you are flying a jet, when do you start slowing down and configuring etc. and how would you lead a turn? I think I remember seeing even this stuff on a thread a few months ago.

Good Luck and it is likely you will get a West Coast base and a class date of 1-3 weeks of when they offer you the job.

I don't think calling to let them know you cannot get work off in that short of a notice would be a problem at all. I interviewed middle of may, and have a class date of June 18th. They asked me also if I could start two weeks after the interview date, which I said yes to, but my class date was 3 weeks after my interview date.

I replied to someones forum topic about a month ago with the kinds of things they asked me. Also, as he was saying above, most the mexican approach questions they ask you in the interview are about DME arcs. They had me finger fly a departure, asked about MCA's, airspeed restrictions, etc. Its all right there in the notes on the plate...just take your time and think about your answer before saying it.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

good luck, even if you botch a few thing up on the interview, be friendly and show your personality (if its a good one) and you will get the job, we are dying for people right now, not so much how you know, more what kind of person you are.................

I've seen both cases of them working with people and not working with people. If you really want to go there, get to the interview. Remember, seniority is everything in this business.

Good point and at the rate at which there hiring a month could mean 100 people I have been here 8 months and already 600 people behind me, now if I would of left COLGAN as soon as I could have, I would of had 1,500 hr behind me........

I was in a similar situation. I did wind up having to postpone my original interview date, and when I finally did interview, I didn't get hired. I'm not saying that contributed, but it might have. Like I said in another post, I must project the "I don't belong at ExpressJet" vibe.

Ooh, but there's a SkyWest open interview in San Diego next Thursday!
