Yeah i agree with ya buddy, dude get off Air Tran's back. They the former Valujet airline was doing what NWA and UAL and the others were doing. Outsourcing is a way of money saving and even thouigh personally I am all for in house maitenence and paying the mechanics a good chunk of change that not gonna happen in todays world. Just my two cents.

Time to replace the piston engines with turboprop planes. This is the 21st Century. I flew the 400's series Cessnas. I like them, but turbine is better- safer too.

What do fuel prices do to your "better" argument though? I always figured that fuel prices and piston economics were the reason they never switched.

Anybody remember this? Appeared on the front page of APC. I looked into the reports it talked about and there is a lot of information there and this video shows a very narrow view of it, but it's a good general view.

Not exactly...many modern management teams would attempt to ignore that sort of deficiency and just hope to hell that the smoking hole comes AFTER they exercise their options and move on to greener pastures.

Valuejet's maintenance practices were probably typical of the industry, but the cause of that smoking hole in the swamp was improperly shipped O2 generators...IIRC they were loaded on the aircraft by the station pesonnel. Or did contract Mx load the candles by obtaining unauthorized access to a 121 airplane without the station manager's knowledge?

They weren't improperly loaded, they were improperly prepared for shipment...caps over the firing pins were never put on. Can't blame Joe Ramper for that. Was it MX that prepared them?? I'm not sure.

I thought it was a contract maintenance provider who improperly prepared the O2 generators for shipment in the Valuejet accident.

Why is everybody always hating on Airtran? I would love to work for them. If it wasnt for all my PIC Turbine being Part 91 and not 121 I would be working hard to be there.

TD, in general I agree with your statement, but in the case of Cape Air you happen to be wrong.

Maybe its because its such a small company, only 600 employees. Maybe its because they have an exceptional management who are more interested in running a very good operation than a very large operation. I don't know. But they are genuinely more interested in people than things.

Perhaps most importantly, the execs apparently have all checked thier egos at the door.

My wife is the New England region training manager for thier station personel. She had a meeting with the COO or some big shot like that a few weeks ago. In the middle of thier meeting he got bumped out of his office by a subordinate who needed the space for some reason. He asked my wife if she didn't mind taking thier meeting to the kitchen. He said something to the effect of "Yeah, you know how it is around here, if someone needs to use my office I just move down the hall."

Can you imagine that happening at AMR, UAL, NW, Republic, Comair, Mesa, or even a 'friendly' place like Southwest or JetBlue?

The Capeies are a unique bunch. If anyone in aviation is going to do the right thing, and for the right reason, you can bet it will be them.

That is a rough read.
