You’ll never talk sense into the shiny jet syndrome, will fly for free, aviation is my whole personality types. Then they get what they want and make less than 20K their first year and insert shocked pikachu face.

I think it’s more about being able to hang on to pilots longer before they become competitive for the majors.

A large amount of qualified pilots are shuffling between airlines. Whatever the reason for changing employers, this great reshuffling has a significant portion of the country's ATPs unqual'd and in training. The problem compounds when aviators hop from one 121 op to another, then another.

With regionals like commute air paying $72 and the AA gang paying $90 to start, I think we can put to bed the idea that there is a pay shortage to attract regional pilots.

At this exact moment, yes. But that doesn’t immediately fill the well, from the moment a fresh prospect with 0 time gets the ‘inspiration’ to become a pilot to when they will actually be available to contribute for an airline is no short walk. The bow wave is still coming, and the backfill will not be here in time. All good news for pilots, not quite as much for our customers, at least not in the immediate future.
