Word on Long Call Reserve

A word of Caution with the new Long Call 2 window. If you dont have alot of flights to commute on you might not want to bid it. For example the airport I commute out of only has 3 Delta Flights and a AA flight that is less the 1 hr apart(dosnt work for commuter cluse). LC2 is from 0700-0900 and 1700-1900hrs. so they can call you up at 1850 and tell ya you have a flight at 0730 am the next day. Withen the 12 hrs call out. The last flight out of my commuter airport leaves at 1800hrs and there is no way for me to get to JFK by 730am the next day. IF you live in base or out of an airport like MCO that has 12 flights a day or serviced by all mighty job saver, Jet Blue; then you might be able to make it work.

Also about the guys from MCO and GSO coming to JFK looks to me there is about 38 FOs thats gona be above me. (Hired in Feb) but I know there are lots of 5 yr FOs from MCO so I hope most will upgrade and fig if they have to be in JFK might as well be a Capt.

[quote=skyknight;207326] It isn't so much the grass is greener as my belief that my grass is turning brown. I was one of the 70 some odd people who had an upgrade that was pushed back then outright cancelled. I didn't start looking at any other grass until then. [quote]

I was one of the lucky guys that only had about 20 minutes left of the second week of g/s when they cancelled it. Also, they (Crew services and D/O) came in the day before and said there was nothing to worry about.

go figure......

For you new guys... I tried to trade reserve days today and I talked to crew planning and she told me I couldn't trade for any days. She said they are short every day for the entire month in CVG. This is after 50 F.O. transfers from jfk to cvg at the first of the month. Good news for you new guys is hiring will continue. In the bid packet this month they also said hiring will pick up in the fall because the 900 flying is very productive. Back to 3 or 4 classes a month up from 1 or 2 in the past few months. Hope is all true good luck to you guys.

I've heard the same thing with CVG being understaffed with F/O's. I just talked to crew planning and asked about getting a TDY in CVG, but I guess there are no plans at this time. Either way, I'm transfering back to CVG on Sept. 1 anyway.

non delta flights DO work for the commuter clause. Ive use northwest almost exclusively out of DTW and have never had a problem using the commuter clause. Dont let scheduling try to tell you it doesnt work.

I agree with the shortage of FO's. I just did two days of ready reserve (CVG 50) and there were no FO's on both days while I was there. This was before 6a.m. to noon and all of the ready trips had captains but no FO's.

Great way to run an airline.

I would never use a long call window and try to FLY to work, that seems very difficult, I wish I could get it considaring I live 1.5 hours from JFK but it can easily turn into 2 or 3 hours with an accident........long call would = perfect

Well, this is off topic. But, I figure with the people who probably read this thread, I might get some good info. There are 3 (maybe more) of us looking for a crashpad starting on the 20th. I've looked on crashpads.com a little. I also wanted to look at the boards in JFK, but I haven't made it up there yet and don't know if I will before it's too late. If anyone knows of a decent place, easy to get to without a car, please feel free to PM me. Thanks!

I use l2 to fly in, and it works very well. They usually give you more than 12 hour notice. The problem I have is when I get a call for an out and back on my last day of l2 with a release time of 22:00.
