Comair new hires

Yay! Just got the call, is anyone else in the 8/27 class?

Speedbird172 06-28-2007 09:28 AM

Congrats! I'm in the 7/30 class, pretty psyched to be starting.

Ya, I have... It couldn't have worked out any better than it has, thanks!

Cubdriver 06-28-2007 11:33 AM

Happy for 'ya Diver. I hope you have fun learning to fly the Canadair.

Paok. Where's your avatar with sweets and joy.

Lbell911 06-28-2007 11:48 AM

Does Comair still have the MCO base? What's their jr base(s)?

Diver Driver 06-28-2007 11:56 AM

MCO and GSO are being closed by December (I think, or at least by the end of the year), Junior base right now is JFK, although from what I have heard CVG isnt too far behind it. I was told to expect 2-6 months reserve in JFK before coming back home to CVG. It could get a little longer with MCO and GSO closing.

cyrcadian 06-28-2007 12:13 PM

Great news!

GSO is closing September 30th and MCO will close October 31st. Also, the first set of 900's are scheduled to arrive September. The skeptic in me says that won't happen!

Squawk_5543 06-28-2007 01:03 PM

I may be an idiot here, but how does bases closing look good for an airline? I mean I'm super happy for you...don't get me wrong.....but I'm not sure if I'd be excited about getting hired by and airline thats closing bases..???!!??

Lbell911 06-28-2007 01:07 PM

That BITES ref the MCO base closing.......so looks like the only FLA base left is MIA with Eagle?

8/27 Comair Class

Congratulations Diver Driver! I knew they'd call you back. With only 1 class per month and the 7/30 class already filled, they're just not in too big of a hurry.

You have my email address. Send me a msg and let me know if you're taking the hotel or furnished apt. option. I haven't decided yet.

Eight weeks will fly by.

---

For the guy who asked about Florida bases, the Comair flying at MCO is being replaced by ERJ's from Mesa/Freedom. I have a friend who lives in Orlando. He took a job with Mesa in hopes of getting an MCO base w/in a few months.

Thanks, It was nice to meet ya at the interview, glad I know somebody in class! You know that CR7 pilot that came and said hi to me at lunch? He just got his captain upgrade and might be in class around the same time as us. Anyway, Im going for the furnished apartments because I'm local and will have the car. Any idea what you are going to do? Not sure if we can request housemates or anything like that.... I was too excited to ask questions during the job offer phone call.

BobSakamano 06-28-2007 08:11 PM

Cincinnati is a long drive for me, but being in a hotel w/o a car for that long would be a drag. Also, having private laundry and a kitchen would be nice. Right now, I'm leaning towards the apartment. The hardest thing to swallow is putting over 4,000 miles on my car to do it.

I don't know how the roommate selection is handled either.

Try 150K miles on your vehicle in four years chasing this crazy "dream" I call Aviation ;-)

If we had a choice Id prob go for the apartment.....I am so ready to get out of this hotel, and the laundry here sucks so I end up going to a laundry mat once a week, which also sucks.... I have a car also, but I am dying to cook a meal, and stop getting take out. Making raman noodles in the coffee pot is never fun! Go for the apartment. Plus the holiday inn we are at is a convetion and meetings hotel, so EVERY weekend this place FILLS up and there are usually screaming children, or a bible convention playing guitare and singing about jesus til 1am on either side of your room.... Im ready to blow my brains! Lately its been Softball tournaments for 12 year olds, they run up and down the hall all night..... Go for the apartment!

Heh, I know what you mean, got a used SAAB last summer with 39k on it, Im up to 82,000 miles and have only had it a year today! 43,000 miles in one year is a lot.

down2mins 06-29-2007 10:56 AM

The Hilton is nice. Plus, it's good to be in the same place as your classmates for homework/study purposes.

saxman66 06-29-2007 12:48 PM

Oh nice, new FO's behind me! Yes, go for the apartment. We weren't even given that option and had to stay at the Radisson downtown. It was nice being close to places to eat since i didn't have a car, but I really got sick of it. Wish they had given us the apartment option. I woulda loved something like the Residence Inn. (not sure if its that) Well welcome to Comair and I'll see ya'll at JFK. I'm waiting to start IOE.

Paok 06-29-2007 02:17 PM

Wish I was at the hilton or raddison, holiday inn is not bad, it would be horrible without a car, but the whole convention thing every weekend gets old, ecspec when u have saturday morning 4am sim......

garritto 06-29-2007 02:30 PM

So what is this apartment option they're giving the new-hires now?? All the new-hires when I got in back in december were put in the radisson riverfront. Congrats on getting the job....i've been here 6 months and am enjoying comair

BobSakamano 06-29-2007 03:11 PM

When they hired me 6/14, I was handed a letter that basically said there are two choices for accomodations, all 100% covered by Comair. They said the furnished apartment thing is nice.

1. Single occupancy hotel - w/kitchenette type setup

2. Double occupancy 2 bedroom/2 bath fully furnished apartment incl. washer/dryer, 2 tv's w/cable & wireless internet.

#2 is definitely more attractive. It's good to have a live-in study/sim partner (as long as there's enough personal space). Double occupancy hotel rooms would definitely suck.

I have a 2006 Audi A3 that already has 35,000 miles on it. Adding another 4,000 plus local miles is a big bite. I might look in to flying out and getting a long term rental or buying a beater to get around town with.

I've stayed at hotels for extended periods before and it sucks. It get's expensive and old eating takeout EVERY day. I like to cook anyway. (BTW, ramen noodles in a coffee pot sounds as good as grilled cheese on an iron)

A couple of good friends were December new hires and they have nothing but nice things to say about Comair and are very happy. It is one of the few places where I've heard nothing negative from people I know and trust.

Yes, it's still a regional and my eyes are wide open.

Looking forward to class. 8/27 is a pretty long wait. I can't wait to meet everyone.

Diver Driver 06-29-2007 07:52 PM

Ya, Im pretty excited too. I have heard a lot of good things about Comair and everyone I know there is happy (In comparison with other carriers). I put in for the apartment, got an '03 Saab 9³ to tool around in, so I think it's going to be much better than the hotel. Im really excited, it is kind of a bummer to wait for training so long, but Im just happy to be on board.

Are you comming from the west coast? There is one kid that doesnt have a car, but we are all in the same hotel so he just catches rides with us.... In the apartment it might be harder if you didnt have a car! Everything is really spread out here, and even the radisson which is (downtown kinda) is hard to walk places... im curious which hotel has the kitchenette..... Its certainly not the holiday inn, I wish we had at least that! Im dying to make some eggs....haha! 1 more week or so!

Diver Driver 06-30-2007 07:32 AM

Ill at least have my car at the apartments, and I'm sure several others will too. I have no problem carpooling with those who don't have vehicles.

Devildog2Pilot 07-02-2007 06:55 AM

Im in the 8/27 class!

Looking forward to meeting you all. I've got a list of some memory items we will be learning if anyone is interested, just PM me.

Speedbird172 07-02-2007 08:19 AM

Paok 07-02-2007 08:53 AM

Yeah we are learning Canpa have not gotten to Canarsie yet but talked about it A LOT in ground school... We are still concentrating on getting the MV out of the way, one thing at a time hehe!!!

TristarJS30 07-02-2007 09:07 AM

It's all downhill from the MV.

Paok 07-02-2007 09:10 AM

Heh heh... sorry. :o Yeah, I should have said "smooth sailing."

down2mins 07-02-2007 01:09 PM

Good luck in training. Don't worry about the memory items & limitations yet....if you get the cards the first week, you'll be fine...just do 1 or 2 a night. In my opinion, it's been best just to focus on what's next. Indoc...systems...memory items/limitations....flows...in that order with the memory items/limatations throughout. We start sims this week... If you need anything, don't be afraid to ask!

TRS531 07-03-2007 02:24 PM

I see on Comair's site and APC that the mins are back up to 1200/100?!? Have a ton of new hires been attending classes of late? I thought everyone was hurting for pilots....

Still 600/100; couple of other sites haven't been updated yet that's all.
