As long as I don't have to fill out an ASAP, I really don't care what they do. Oh, but don't eat with the hot mike on...please.

A flight engineer who is working on ratings telling you for the last six hours while crossing the pond how to fly. It goes something like this: "You're supposed to put the gear down at glide slpe intercept." Uh, not when we're at 5000 feet on a long final with four engines running.

One of the best "Briefs" I heard from an FO.

Hi, my name is [ . . . . ]. I've been flying for this long, this much time in type, since you are PIC just let me know how you want things done and I'll do it. I have quirks that may come out, just let me know what bothers you and I'll try to fix it. My only request, is not to rush me doing Taxi Checks, 2nd Engine starts, B4 takeoff checks if we know before hand we are going to get a short taxi. I'd rather keep my head out of the cockpit so we don't hit anything.

When asked if he had anything to add to the crew briefing, this person then followed it up with a FA briefing that was short and sweet.
"The only thing I want to mention is that you don't say or discuss anything about drinking, parties, crazy behavior, or feeling tired and hungover, while on the Van Rides to and from the airport and anywhere in the airport especially if we have to walk through a TSA security line."

Actually, I don't think it's sloppy at all. Sometimes you just forget to realign it- especially when you're dealing with crossing restrictions, runway changes, and trying to get a hold of ops. What worries me is if butterfingers starts punching stuff on the FCP, and accidentally changes the mode when the AP is engaged. It's happened to me more than once. It's simple... when the AP is engaged, the PF changes stuff on the FCP. When the AP is disengaged the PF commands the PM as to what he wants done on the FCP. It's not rocket science.

I hate it when the CA tries to treat me like his kid just because his "kid" happens to be around my age. I also hate CAs touching my FCP when the AP is on (and its my leg), or hitting/doing things before I call for them. I had one CA that would repeatedly click my AP on at 600ft when I had told him in EVERY one of my T/O briefs that I would handfly to at least 10K unless there was an abnormal- and we were NOT coming out of busy/congested areas! I just try to be standard at the start and adapt to the CA as I figure out what his "standard" means... One day I guess I will get it my way...

Having to dodge every single cloud, sometimes you have to just suck it up.

It bugs me when FOs do something traditionally done by the Captain without asking. Or when the FO does something to set the tone without considering the tone I may want to set. For example:

The other day I was flying an all nighter from ANC to SEA. Almost immediately after take off the FO reached up and turned on all the overhead lighting. I was going to turn it on but not just yet. I like to wait until above 10,000 and clear of clouds etc...

Sometimes an FO will reach up and turn off the ignition when running the FL 180 check without asking.

I was busy on the radio, on two channels so the FO selected his own flaps.

While taxing out for TO the tower asked us if we could accept an intersection take off. He answer that we could without even looking at me or waiting for any indication from me.

The list goes on. Now don't get me wrong. I don't freak out yell at the FOs or even mention it. You asked what annoys me. There is a big difference between a little annoyance and a big problem.

I had a CA tell me once..."Before you do anything ask yourself two questions...1) Will it affect your Captain's pay? 2) Will it get your Captain killed? If you answer no to both of those questions, go for it".

He was obviously joking but I thought that was kinda funny.

From a F/A perspective, the one that ****ed me off the most, was on take off roll from Bos-Ord, we lost an engine........come to stop......taxi off the runway.....they make announcement talk with mechanics on the radio get it fired up again.....only to do the take off roll again, and loose all electical lighting in the cabin of the airplane this time......Then the Cpt says on the P.A, we'll have maintence look into when we get to ORD....on a full 757.....leaving us 5 F/A's to deal with the passengers.

Later found out Cpt was a scab.......totally explained it!!!!
