Still the ATP rule (there is no 1500 hour rule). I'm flying with pilots without 1500 hours every other trip.

Correct.

Calling it a 1500 hour rule is a management spin to attempt to make it appear arbitrary when it's anything but.
The ATP requires additional training above the level of commercial and requires an additional checkride above the level of commercial.
The ATP may be obtained at several "hour" interval points; all based upon education, experience, and type of training. So, the ATP rule already takes into consideration the varying types of education, experience and training. The part 121 passenger death statistics post enactment speak for themselves.

Every pilot should always call it an ATP rule, not a 750-1000-125-1500 hour rule.

The rule has been in effect for over 10 years. It is not responsible for the pilot shortage. The pilot shortage was caused by managements own shortsightedness and refusal to accept union warnings as far back as 2011-2012. They forced concession after concession to remain "competitive" for so many years that the experience level of the applicant they could attract eventually hit ink wet commercial minimums around 2007. As the compensation levels dropped so did the experience levels. Eventually they were paying food stamp level wages and even at 250 hours couldn't hire enough pilots yet they continued demanding even more concessions. Thank places like Ford & Harrison giving them bad advice to continue forcing concessions. One trick pony show.

Anyway, that was then.... this is now. Getting into a 121 76 passenger jet with ink wet ATP is still a huge gift. Most of us had to have a lot more experience to get in the door. Except for the small hiring window from 2007 to 2012, and no hiring happened from 2008 recession to mid 2010.... so it really was only a 3-4 year window where the low time hiring happened. That's also when IOE times shot through the roof, and IOE Captains were tired and beat up from teaching basic flying instead of just helping orient a new pilot to airline operations.

You can't fly part 135 in a C172 with passengers without 500 TT in daytime VMC. You can't fly them at night or IMC in that same C172 without 1200 TT. If you look at the totality of the rules, the current ATP rule requiring an Airline Transport Pilot license to fly Airline Transport Category jets makes perfect sense.

I really hate the term "1500 hour rule."

According to the FAA, a total of 15,591 new air transport pilot licenses were issued and 9,671 pilots retired between 2019 and 2021, giving a surplus of 6,000 pilots ready to serve airlines across the country. The airlines just need to provide a lucrative enough position to attract the pilots.

Likely more of a result of supply and demand, but even if you're right, that doesn't mean that one cannot have independent thought outside of the union's talking points.

I absolutely have independent thoughts, and thankfully the union is in perfect alignment with me on this one.

The pilots ARE the union you putz. LECs and the MECs are elected officials who speak on our behalf. But you wouldn’t know that based on your post history.

You're saying most pilots are Democrats?
