Thoughts on Colgan?
#51
Hey everyone I had a few questions for you,
I am interested in Colgan because of the TYR base, is really close to my house. How hard would it be to get that or IAH right out of training? Or how long would it take before I could get one of those? What is the Continental flying like? More specifically the flying out of TYR? What about equipment in SF340's? I understand they arent the greatest, but are they decent? Are the planes in decent shape or are they going in to MX alot? Hows the pilot group? If any of you CJC people can help me out id really appreciate it.

my basis is that i know that the colgan mgmt are a bunch of losers. i know people that work there and that have issues with crew scheduling playing favorites on myspace. that's extremely unprofessional. i know how bad the pay is compared to industry standards. i know how bad their contract is, oh wait they don't have one! i know alpa isn't the ultimate answer but at least have a cba.

I didn't like the corporate thing... too much schmoozing and waiting around, at least with the gig I had. It was usually just the CEO that used the airplane, so we did a lot of 3 and 4 day trips involving only 2 legs. Boring.
The pay was nice though. I do miss that.

That varies from month to month with the new hires, but TYR is kind of a small base, but not ususally in high demand, so you should be able to hold it within 3 months. IAH with upgrades gone wild right now, you should be able to hold right out of the box.
Shamrox, with your situation, I'd think Colgan would be a very good fit. I spent 18 months there, and as a 36 year old myself, can say it wasn't bad. It is what you make of it. The only reason I left was to get closer to home, which wouldn't be an issue for you.
Further, don't wait, send in your resume NOW. They're hiring and having a hard time finding people. When I got on, they were publishing 1,000 hours as their mins, but called me in one day after I applied with 508 hours!!!! You're close enough to the 500 I'd say they'd definitely call you if you applied. If they don't, go to the job fair and I'd almost guarantee you an interview.
Best of luck,
